I love to be able practice my Japanese and be as well as to help Japanese tourists that come through my line at work ( I am a taxi dispatcher). Many times they speak little English so I am grateful I still have retained enough to still communicate pretty well. I think I never smile more than being able to help and give them the information they need in Japanese (while apologizing if my pronunciation may be off)! I love the smiles on their faces in surprise when I begin to speak Nihongo! and the pressure to communicate is lifted for them. I love natural places, and the Adirondacks in Upstate NY as well as South Hero Vt. are 2 of my favorites where I love to regroup and find blessed respite. I am a photographer, and producing beautiful images of the wonders I see around me never fails to lift my spirits. I am an artist and a poet as well and love Gothic fantasy. I love going to New Orleans LA for Halloween and the Gothic scene (see pic)!and events there. Being with like minded spirits...
Ecology and preserving and protecting our natural places and wilderness areas which are the most important legacy we can leave those that follow. Being Buddhist, respecting all life and teaching my son the same value. Animal rights and fighting against animal abuse and making others aware of the issues out there they may be uninformed of. To teach my son to persevere and to stand up for what is right even if you stand alone and always be true to your self. Admit also you have faults and weaknesses just like everybody else and try to do the best you can to make yourself better in these areas, and keep trying even if the going gets tough.Teaching others how to release pain or frustration through an artistic medium, ie. drawing ,writing, photography, poetry, music... instead of turning to alcohol or drugs which hurts you and those around you. And a favorite saying "Courage... Not the absence of fear and despair, but the strength to conquer them" Peace and Ecology now!
Being in a natural environment, watching the sun set in the Adirondack mountains covered in mist with hues of blues, greys and crimson, being in the woods in Upstate NY in the fall surrounded by glorious fall leaves and breathing in the crisp air scented with balsam, fir, and hemlock, going to Penfield NY hometown of Pete Deuel, finding memorabilia of Peter Deuel on Ebay, being around like minded spiritual types, crystal bow meditations, counseling a young person going through difficult times, spending quality time with my son, karaoke, impersonating Marilyn Monroe at Birthday parties and seeing the look on everyone's face, speaking Japanese, New Orleans Gothic gatherings, singing, drawing, photography, Japanese food, Japanese events, a peaceful night with candles and incense, enjoying Native American music, Native American Pow Wows, traveling, New Age Stores, antique shops, Petting animals, avoiding poisons in my home but instead catching and releasing critter outside peacefully.
I am a photoholic through and through! In a trip to New Orleans in 6 days I took 1200 pics! all around the cemeteries (imagine that!) and the French Quarter. I also have quite a collection of beautiful photos from my trips over the past 13 years to Upstate NY. The areas covered are in beautiful North and South Hero along Lake Champlain in Vt., one of the most beautiful areas there is, esp. in the fall, (luv their chili, pumpkin coffee, and maple cookies!) Even though I have made the trip so often, I never tire of finding beautiful things to photograph. Being an artist I enjoy expressing my creativity in many artistic formats, just depending on what medium might be most condusive to the feeling or mood I am trying to portray at that specific time. I love creating Gothic fantasy work as well, especially Vampire themes. When I am being creative I am most at peace with the world as all my focus is in that moment of "creating" something wonderful and there is nothing better than that!
Tranquil places filled with positive energy, hearing my dog snore, a cup of pumpkin spice coffee, maple cookies, chili on a cold evening, humor, Peter Deuel, A room full of candles flickering in the breeze of an open window, watching true who-done-its, having a drink with a friend, going to Steak and Shake with my son, sharing wisdom with my son and to find him actually listening, my animals, feeding all the neighborhood squirrels and birds. watching a squirrel sitting inside the bird feeder helping himself, Dark Shadows gothic soap opera, The Crow, being an Activist and fighting for causes I believe in, Buddhist philosophy, seeing my kid happy, accomplishing something on my "to do" list and having extra time left over, Japanese pancakes, sushi and sashimi, Japanese language, reading, spirit photography, cool stickers, listening to storms roll in, Michael Tomlinson music about nature, friendship, and simple pleasures, quaint small towns, and old book stores, and antique shops.
I was a Monbusho scholarship recipient back in 1982 and lived in Nihon for 1 1/2 years in Osaka and Kyoto. I have wonderful memories of that time and feel blessed to have experienced them. I try to practice my Nihongo at the airport where I work.
