MakerBar 1st Public Fundraiser

Come join this FUN event and support the MakerBar!

About Us

The MakerBar is Hudson County's only makerspace devoted to helping people of all ages make new and interesting creations. We help develop practical knowledge of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics by working with tools and techniques such as electronics, programming, 3d printing, traditional and computer controlled machining. Basically we make stuff.

MakerBar provides the community with two free open nights each week, Soldering Wednesday and Craft Night. At each open night our members showcase their own projects and share their newest skills, while helping new and regular guests with whatever projects they've brought. Weekends we offer classes on programming, emergency preparedness, Arduino, Raspberry Pi,  and other special events.

Why a fundraiser?

The MakerBar is in the process of changing its IRS filing status to 501C3. Essentially this means that donations made to the organizatiom will be tax deductible after the filing has been processed and approved. This status will help the MakerBar evolve and ultimately allow us us to offer improved facilities, shop equipment and education opportunities to the MakerBar community.

Besides a mountain of paperwork (not fun) there's a hefty filing fee that needs to be paid (not fun). To help defray some of the expense, MakerBar is hosting it's first public Fundraiser (very fun!) at a beloved Hoboken waterfront bar and restaurant, The Melting Pot.

The FUN!

The event is 3 hours and will be held in the bar and party room areas. Besides socializing with fellow MakerBar members and founders there will be:

  • Several complimentary chocolate fondue stations. Yum!
  • Cash bar with drink specials.
  • Unique member created projects for auction. Photos/details to be uploaded soon.
  • Member sponsored tutoring certificates for auction
  • A kit sales table to purchase our featured soldering/hacking kits that you can assemble at home or at one of our open nights.

In addition to the Meetup reservations online @ $17.00, we will have ticket sales at the door for $20.00 per person.

We look forward to seeing you!

So, talking with the Melting Pot, they'd be glad to have us back in July, there would be no auction, but what should we do if we went back?

From the twisted mind of Zack Freedman, Dual-Wield Hacked Spectral Blasters. Two X-ray green Nerf Mavericks, hacked for double ranges and special features. The left blaster glows with ultraviolet light whenever the trigger is pulled. The right blaster has everything you need to integrate an infrared TV-B-Gone. It's all over the electromagnetic spectrum! Just a note, when you buy tickets through meetup, it will ask you a few questions about projects and teaching classes. Feel free to answer those or leave them blank or whatever suits you. We ask those of everyone attending our events just to better know our community--so we know what classes to develop and what equipment to pursue.

MakerBar member Luke Krill will be auctioning off a 4 hour one-on-one time-lapse photography class in Hoboken. Includes shooting several time-lapse sequences, pre-processing the photos and making a movie. We can use your personal camera or my robotic GoPro camera turret or both. Suggested value $200. I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
