We may be too old to play with G.I. Joes ... but there are plenty of adult alternatives to keep us entertained and using our imagination like creating your own closed terrarium.
Terrariums are self-sustaining environments that mimic the closed loop functions of an ecosystem. It is a novel way to grow plants with minimal care.
So come stretch out your green thumbs with us and learn all the dos and don’ts in creating these self-contained ecosystems. Plants, potting materials, and quirky/ humorous figurines will be provided. All students are suggested to bring their own clear glass container with clear glass lid to build their terrarium (we will have a few available for purchase, so bring a bit of cash).
In this class you will learn the history of the terrarium and follow step-by-step instructions in this hands-on workshop. Learn the different types of plants that can be used, how to arrange quirky add-ins that can bring life, geekiness and humor to your terrarium and how to care for your ecosystem. Then we'll roll up our sleeves and put theory to practice. Your imagination is the limit, so don't forget yours at home!
Cost is $30 + $10 of materials (MakerBar members pay only $10). No computer or tools required, just bring a clear glass container with lid of your choice of up to 16"sq. or in diameter.
