Soldering Wednesday Open Event

Soldering Wednesday is the perfect open event if you don't have a project - drop by, pick up a kit, and make something cool with our members at your side.

No obligation to buy a kit - bring your own project and hack with the MakerBar community.

Current kit menu:

  • The TV-B-Gone - A universal remote that turns off any television. ANY TV. Reduce distractions at the bar, cause havoc at Best Buy, and feel like a superhero. Exclusive MakerBar Swag Edition developed by members! - $30 - 2 Hours - Medium Difficulty
  • The Joule Thief - A super-bright flashlight that runs on dead batteries. WHAT?! Exclusive MakerBar Swag Edition developed by members! - $10 - 1 Hour - Easy Difficulty
  • The Sonic Pencil - A pencil that makes extraordinarily silly sounds as you draw. Great soldering and fun for kids and adults. Exclusive MakerBar Swag Edition based on Drawdio open hardware! - $20 - 1.5 Hours - Easy Difficulty
  • XProtolab - An entire electronics bench on a circuit smaller than most erasers. Snaps into a breadboard and features a dual-channel oscilloscope, logic analyzer, FFT, voltmeter... Dense surface-mount soldering with special components means you'll use special toys to build it! Expert solderers only. Yes, it actually works; you can try ours first. - $35 - 3 Hours - Extreme Difficulty

Soldering Wednesday is open to the public and repeats on the third Wednesday of every month. The event is organized by Travis Jones.

I'm not an expert solderer but XProtolab seems interesting. Can I take my hand at it? Also... please elaborate... dual channel oscilloscope? what? :O

I think I'd also like to try it. I haven't done SM soldering before, so should be a fun challenge.

Can't make it today it turns out. However, will this be offered in the future weekly soldering Wednesdays? Or if I drop by pumpkin hacking night, can I try my hands on the xprotolab? Thank you.

Two quick questions. Is there parking or should I get dropped off? Also, when you say "Look for the red MakerBar sign and call to be let in. " do you mean there is a phone number on the sign or is it on here somewhere?
