Reverse Space 6PM to 10PM 1-10-2013 – Build, Create, Collaborate.

This week we have tech from crowdfunding website www.kickstarter.com called the “tPOD1 Thermoelectric Power on Demand.” The technology of thermoelectric power generation is possibly a revolutionary technology. The tPOD1 works by applying heating on one side of the thermoelectric pad and cooling the other side to create electric power. If reversed, a thermoelectric can be used to cool. If the efficiency were to be increased, your home AC unit would have no moving parts and could be the size of a small laptop. Universities are currently using nanotechnology to make nanomaterials to try to increase the efficiency.

The tPOD1 is a small power generator for charging an iPhone using just a lit candle. This could be used in a power outage, by survivalist people, or used to charge your iPAD in a zombie apocalypse. Come by to our MakerSpace and see it run for the first time. We will do some readings to determine the amount of power generated and if it can be increased using ice on the outside with the flame from the candle on the inside.
