Close-up of our first(!) real embroidered shirt project. This pattern was created by taking a picture of the "Reverse Space" sign, warping it into shape and contrast-enhancing it in GIMP, converting it to a Brother PES file in PE-Design Plus, and moving it to the Duetta 4500 on a thumb drive. About 4,800 stitches, one color of thread, 12 minutes to sew. The tiny loose ends can be trimmed off when we get a pair of really little shears. The moire' effect you see on the fabric is an artifact of photography; the actual shirt is just a plain light khaki weave.
