If your an owner of a piece of equipment or you have an interest in becoming an owner or trainer on a piece(s) of Makespace equipment you need to come to an owners' meeting.

What was discussed did not address the issues that are necessary to conquer now:- make sure that the interest in training does not wain and members and others walk away;- that the equipment available is used effectively;(I am also disadvantaged as I am hard of hearing and cannot follow a discussion in a group where the participants sit around a table, let alone are scattered around the room and speak with soft voices).Never mind that, I believe I can make a difference without contributing to discussions in meetings. I will use the forums and blogs to establish a project that should be of interest to more people than me.

Jon, I'm so sorry that you felt left out. I wish you'd spoken up earlier -- we could for example have put the evolving meeting notes up on the projector to help you follow what was being discussed. The 3D printer ownership group is meeting on Thursday 5th at 7 p.m., and again the following Wednesday, 11th, to develop and update training materials, and to try to "induct" some trainers. You (and anyone else interested in becoming an owner of trainer) are welcome to join us.
Excellent! I will be there and take part.
The induction is just a start, having now four weeks experience in making models on a similar printer to the one in the MakeSpace, there are a lot to learn about "how to make it work", for example the control files for the printer have 100+ parameters to set correctly. And this is only one of many types of printers (four new ones are launched in London first week of Dec).I also believe we should stop discussing "abuse" and instead offer advice and Caption tape for anyone who dears to have a go, there should also be available ample stock of material to build from (ABS and PLA filaments).More concrete proposals when we meet ...
Yes, yes and yes ...First yes: I am interested in becoming an owner of the 3D Printer and running some training courses;Second yes: I'll get my name and picture in my registration on the web-site;Third yes: I'll get my name and picture on the in the meeting room;
And No, I found coming to the Owners' meeting yesterday of no value, not for me nor the Makespace as a whole.
: ( feeling rotten. Please could you let me know what comes up. Cheers

Jon, you're right. We are aware that the system for booking training is not working well. We've been kicking around some ideas to improve things, but it all takes time and effort. Remember that everything is done through volunteer person-power. There are certainly things you can do to help. How about becoming an owner of the 3D printer and running some training courses, for example? And I'd encourage you to put your picture on here, and up on the wall in Makespace, if you've not done so already. (I've no idea what you look like :-)

I will bring some of my printed models to make my point.

I have just joined Makespace, and found that there are opportunities to develop ideas into physical objects using the tools available to paid up members. I have worked on my own for too long and would enjoy working in a team again. Two points:- It is too difficult to get on the list for learning to use any of the pieces of equipment available, this holds me (and others) back;- when I have visited, most of the equipment is not being used, there is hardly anyone there; For practical reasons I have bought my own kit (3d printer, pillar drill, grinder/polisher and sander) to develop ideas into a product range for sale over the internet to generate an income stream. There must be others that also want to create item for sale, prototyping them in Makespace.I would like to meet up with "Owners'" to discuss how I can contribute to creating a difference to status-quo. I have a couple of ideas to present to create an income stream for Makespace and a surge in interest / use of the equipment.
Sorry, can't make that date, out of the country.
This group is for members and visitors to Makespace, a community inventing shed in Cambridge, UK. The meetups are organised by community members both in the space and elsewhere in Cambridge.
To tweak your email preferences for the group, please go to http://meetup.makespace.org/settings/
We would love to meet:
* Community members, enthusiasts, and educational groups who could benefit from a lab in which to work together, network, socialise, and draw on the expertise of others
* People working within local industries looking to innovate in ways that require new skills, equipment and contacts
* Companies and consultancies that support innovation and prototyping, and who could provide training, support, leading to the sale of their services
* Innovators needing to produce physical prototypes to further their ideas
If this could include you, please help us maintain and grow Makespace by joining now, telling us:
* Who you are, and any company/group affiliation
* What you could contribute to and/or how you could benefit from Makespace
* Any other ideas, requirements or suggestions to improve Makespace
