As well as the Official SISTER group of Widows and Widowers....................My name is Barb... In December of 2010...... I started a Meetup Group Named ....Widows & Widowers making Friends and Enjoying Life........ Since starting the group..we have grown to  over 100 members..... we have our own events and co host events with other meetup groups.....In bringing the Widows and Widowers together with our Divorced/Single  Friends ........I began to  understand.......the way we became single is very different but the feeling of loneliness, vulnerability, the need to start over, make new friends, find activities to participate in....... is something we all have in common....W&W was created to act as a bridge to bring people together in a safe enviroment as they transitioned into their life as a "Single" person..... this group could have the same purpose for divorced people (or people who find themselves alone not living with a spouse or in a commited relationship..) ..a way to get make new friends and experience new activities......... IF YOU ARE WIDOWED YOU CAN BE A MEMBER OF BOTH GROUPS OR JUST ONE...WHICH EVER YOU FEEL THE MOST COMFORTABLE WITH....Our Widowed Members are in the age range of 50 to 69....Most people in this group are also within that age range...give or take a few years.... in either direction........(if you are only interested in the Widows group click on.......http://www.meetup.com/Widows-Widowers50S60S/

We are not about dating.... we are about making friends and sharing activities with others.... We are about getting together with friends.....Our activities will include new adventures or possibly doing stuff you haven't done in years..... Some activities my meetup group has done over the last year has been, going to Plays, Movies, Dances, Sporting Events, Kayaking, Hiking, Vacationing, Weekend trips, Day Trips, Bus Trips, Dining out, Murder Mystery Dinners, Brunches, Picnics, Geo-caching, Mini Golf, Golf, Billiards, Biking, Picnics, Volunteering, Fund Raising, attending Cooking Classes, Gourmet Wine and Cheese Tasting Classes, Boating, going to Concerts, Festivals, the Flower Show, Train rides, Game nights, Car shows, Star watches, live music events, air shows, flea marketing, shopping, hay rides, Archery, House Parties, Costume Parties, House Tours, Parades,  Whale Watching and more......... Suggest something ..... we will give it a try......

We don't spend a lot of time sitting around in bars, not that we don't do that occasionally but with this group  unless we are there to hear a band or dance.....it is an after thought...not the main event...we recently started a group within the group who are interested in fine dining and posting things such as Dinner Cruises, or Dinner Shows, etc.. but we still do casual dining and brunches.  We also have an inner group interested in Hiking and Exploring.. .Many of our Events are Family Friendly......Some plans that are in the works are for such things as a trip to Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater, Mosaics Class, Target shooting, Concerts, Festivals, the Flower Show, Ride the Ducks, visiting Jim Thorpe, Touring Washington in the Spring, and of course our Second Annual Family and Friends Picnic at Greenlane Park.....and .... the list goes on and on.... We participate in activities in Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, Lehigh, Berks Counties  and Philadelphia.... We have gone to the Inner Harbor, Gettysburg and to the Shore......

 Our group is private... you will be asked to supply a phone number (cell is fine) and an email address... You will not be contacted unless it is about a meetup or your membership...You are asked not to post your full name or your address... Your first name and last initial is fine.... along with the town where you live.....A recent photo is required.... that is so we can recognize you at a meetup event.....

Please be aware...even though we are not a dating site...if two people mutually decide to date....they will not be asked to leave the group....and we hope they will continue to participate in activities.....

There are no fees involved in being a member of this group and you are under no obligation to stay a member..... (Eventually I may start to charge a nominal amt ....like $5.00 per year.) But for now there is none....After we meet you will be made an event organizer so you can post an activity in your area...All members will be asked to suggest or host at least one activity per year.....this could be something as simple as posting that you are going to a movie and asking if anyone would like to join you..... Please feel free to contact me if you need help or have any questions about hosting...IF WE ALL COME UP WITH SUGGESTIONS.
