MALE PHOTOGRAPHY & MODELING WORKSHOP DC
We offer photographers AND models interested in pursuing the art of male portrait and figurative photography a chance to practice and meet others.
We focus on three types of male images:
1. Fashion & underwear (model has some clothing on)
2. Suggestive (artistic) nudes (full frontal view is not shown)
3. Full nudity
While the models are always male, the photographers may include either gender (assuming the model is comfortable). Models decide what type of poses they are comfortable with and may limit to fully clothed or suggestive nudes. We strive for tasteful and artistic images in all of our workshops.
Models can be professional, semi-pro, or amateur and all models are welcome to join the group. Some are paid and others are looking for modeling practice and accept images in exchange for modeling. (Model casting inquiry page link:
Most of our workshops provide both education AND practice time. They are held in our studio in Arlington VA, as well as other studios and locations/outdoors. Workshops will indicate the type of poses that will be covered.
Novice and experienced photographers are welcome at our workshops - with or without prior studio experience. All can begin shooting high quality studio shoots very quickly. It is expected that all photographers will bring a digital SLR camera. We may have one you can borrow at a workshop (you can bring your own SD memory card so you can leave with the images you take) with prior arrangement.
Tips for a successful photo workshop session:
Please arrive on-time. Check out maps in advance so you know the location and can adjust for traffic. Exact address of studio will be sent to those that register.
Bring your digital SLR camera and any props you may want to suggest. Know how to change the basic settings on your camera (focus, aperture, shutter speed and ISO)
Respect the limits of the model regarding poses and props and treat the model as a professional.
Learn from others and share your photography expertise. We often share poses during workshops.
Have fun and create some awesome professional photography of men!
COST: The goal is to keep the cost reasonable - especially when you compare what it would cost to hire a model and book a studio with equipment by yourself. Plus, you meet new people (both models and photographers) and learn from them. All payments (or deposit) are expected to be paid in advance to reserve your spot. Payment can be made via the meetup site.
FORMAT: For each workshop, the limit of spots available will be posted (model workshops typically allow for 3 photographers to join David). The goal is to keep the group small so that each photographer has at least 30 minutes of total shooting time over a 2 hour total time - a shooting allowance will usually be indicated to let you know a minimum number of shots you can expect to capture at the session. We have three different shooting formats, and the type to be used will be in the announcement page for each Model Shooting workshop. To learn more about the three formats, visit http://www.imagesmale.com/#!workshop-format....
Some workshops are more demo style and others include lectures and members are always encouraged to share their expertise. We also offer a studio 101 training for photographers and models who want to slow down and learn the basics.
IMAGE RIGHTS: Typically, you retain the rights to display and share the photographs you shoot and a signed model release form is provided to each photographer.
SUPER MEMBERS: In an effort to recognize members who are actively engaged in this group and to make it easier for all members to find the more highly engaged photographers & models, we have the title of “Super Photographer” and “Super Model” to any member that meets the following criteria: If you qualify, please request the change in title.
“Super Photographer” - has attended at least two workshops and actively participated and shared expertise and upload images after the workshop OR has taught at least one workshop. This title is not based on a review of work, rather an effort to be involved in learning photography.
“Super Model” - has modeled at least once for David and/or at a workshop and has demonstrated proficiency in posing, creativity, and overall engagement OR has taught at least one workshop.
