A chance to sample some old ales, stouts, porters, strong bitters and other beers which are just that little bit stronger than normal to ward off the winter chill.
Each December into January, the Stockport and South Manchester branch of CAMRA runs its "Winter Warmer Wander" promotion. The idea is to visit different pubs and try a beer of 4.5% ABV or over. Full details of participating pubs and prizes are here:
We start off at the ornate Marble Arch on Rochdale Road (about 8 minutes' walk from Victoria station or Shudehill bus station for anyone who doesn't know it), then take in the recently reopened (after 22 years!) Lower Turks Head on Shudehill. Our other stops are 57 Thomas Street on....Thomas Street, and one of Manchester's institutions, the Castle on Oldham Street.
A fine way to start the new year!
UPDATE: Approx itinerary 7pm Marble Arch, 8pm Lower Turks Head, 8.45 57 Thomas Street, 9.30/9.45 Castle.
Winter Warmer Wander 2 is on Friday 10 January and visits the six participating pubs in Chorlton.
