Meet other people in Manchester, New Hampshire and vicinity who are interested in Buddhism! The Manchester Buddhism Sangha offers weekly meditation and dharma discussion meetings, and monthly book discussions. This group is independent - meaning that it is not officially affiliated with a formal Buddhist temple or center (although some of our members are). We strive to provide a peaceful and respectful atmosphere at our meetings. We welcome anyone with a serious interest in the topic to participate.
The locations and other details of our meetings are made available to members only. Membership is free.
If you become a member, it is always appreciated if you would RSVP for any meeting you plan to attend, either via this Meetup site, or by contacting the organizer (also via this site).
• Weekly Meditation & Discussion Meetings
The Manchester Buddhism Sangha holds a weekly Buddhist practice meeting that includes silent meditation (sitting and walking), a dharma teaching (recorded or read), and a discussion. This meeting is suitable for beginners and experienced practitioners alike. Please check the schedule for details.
• Monthly Book Discussions
The Manchester Buddhism Sangha meets once a month for a book discussion. The readings chosen encourage the exploration of Buddhism representing different traditions by a variety of contemporary authors, as well as the study of traditional Buddhist texts.
The group generally meets on the second Monday of each month, at 7:00 p.m. in Manchester. Please check each meeting for the location.
• About the meaning of the word "Sangha"
Historically the word "sangha" meant solely a formal Buddhist community made up of ordained monks and nuns. Today, "sangha" can also mean the community of lay practitioners. The Manchester Buddhism Sangha includes people who consider themselves to be Buddhist practitioners, as well as those who are simply interested in learning more about Buddhism as a religion, as a path to enlightenment or fulfillment, or as a philosophy. Any approach is okay!
According to the Uppadha Sutta, through the "sangha" we have "admirable friendship, admirable companionship and admirable camaraderie." This is not easy to find!
