From a science / maths background, I went through a New Age phase and then came across skepticism. I still feel the establishment materialist viewpoint is too rigid, but most spiritual / psychological enthusiasms are too tenuous and either dogmatic or impractical. I suppose I still wish to find the answers to life, the Universe, and everything! Failing that I just want to write SF bestsellers...
Robert M. Price, "Top Secret: The Truth Behind Today's Pop Mysticisms". Price has travelled from Born Again to moderate skeptic, and takes a balanced look at "The Secret" etc.
Michael Rutter - Ph.D. in Mathematics, Senior Systems Analyst (now retired), living in the Chorlton area. For many years I have been interested in Science, Philosophy, Skepticism and the New Age. I also enjoy Science Fiction and thrillers.
An interesting meetup. Everyone was intelligent, courteous, and articulate, and pleasant to interact with. We were all interested in ideas, from very different backgrounds. Most of the initial sign-up attended, with a few apologies sent, which was a good start to the series. Further developments eagerly awaited.
