There were quite a few great Chinese songs popular in 70's, 80's and 90's both in Taiwan and mainland China. Many of them were written by song writers from Taiwan. Personally, I like song writers such as 罗大佑, 李宗盛,三毛 and 齐秦. People born in 60's, 70's and 80's grew up singing these songs in China and Taiwan. Let's get together for some good time and enjoyour 童年,小草,滚滚红尘,狼 和 再回首!The lyrics as well as the melodies are absolutely beautiful.
Thank you Lepeng for hosting the event and thank you man on the guitar to keep us in tempo. I had a great time meeting everyone and singing along.

We will also sing and learn 刘文正 演唱的 “乡间小路” (country road) if we have time. Please print the lyrics.

@Lepeng: The name of the park is actually call "Arcadia county park". It is on the corner of santa Anita and Huntington drive. There is a fountain in the front of the park you can't miss it if you are on the intersection. That would be a good place to meet everyone and gather the group.
The address is: 405 S Santa Anita Ave, Arcadia, CA 91006 If u have a GPS. It's really close to 210.

Here is another song "秋蝉“,just as beautiful, popular both in Taiwan and mainland China. Easier to learn and sing! We will definitely sing this song together. Here is the youtube link.

May I suggest santa anita park in arcadia. It's a public park and there's picnic benches under shade. People can sit and bring own food/snack, coffee or whatever. easy parking....and plus you won't be disturbing anyone out in the open.

If possible, after we sing together, I hope someone can suggest a suitable songs for me. I'd like to learn two songs for singing competitions. My vocal range is limited. Maybe I need to re-record the songs to match the key of my voice. I can practice the songs at home, then later... someday... try competition.

Do you think we could reserve a room in a Chinese restaurant where we are allowed to sing songs? Maybe we could start at 4pm and then follow up with a dinner at 6pm in the restaurant? Anyone knows a good restaurant like that in San Gabriel?
March 25
This link is the original singer. I have never heard a voice as pure, broad and passionate as hers. Very fortunate to have a singer like that in China.

Schabarum park has cherry blossoms blooming now! They also have a Bon fire pit area with stadium style wood seats, think it be great for sing along or ghost stories!!
March 23
Stella, that's a good idea. I will search for a good park in the area and am open to your suggestion as well.
March 22
I see. I hope to attend one of the MandarinFriends Meetups in the future. Thanks.
March 19
Fred, this is not a recurring event. We might have a meetup like this 2 or 3 times a year. Friday evening is also another possible time. I just have to send out an email asking what time is best for most people. Not sure what did you mean by modern. Please read my post in details and it should give you a good idea.
March 18
Do you meet on other days than Sunday? Are any of the songs modern? I'd really like to join!
March 18
Dear Peng You,
The cafe I thought we could use for our meetup just told me that we could not do group singing there. My home is not suitable for singing since my neighboors are super sensatitive about any noise. Does anybody know a place or could let us use your home for this meetup tomorrow? Sorry about the last minutes change. Hopefully we could still make it happen!
March 16
Hi Everyone, I need to get an accurate count on how many people going to join us for this event. Please update your RSVP if you can't or may not be able to make it this time. Thanks! I have also updated the time to 2pm to 4pm this Sunday.
March 15
Hi Rich, thanks for suggesting a KTV on Hacienda Blvd. My intention is to learn and sing songs accousticly. Right now I am confirming with Jumpcut Cafe about using their space this Sunday afternoon from 2pm to 4pm. Maybe we will try a KTV next time and then hot pot afterwards.
March 15
Hi all, I just join this group. I cannot wait to meet you all. But when can we know the location??
