Guided Tour of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and CNY Talk-About

  • April 4, 2014 · 1:45 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

We will take The Federal Bank of New York's guided tour as group and then discuss what we saw and heard at a nearby cafe.  This a free tour (The Fed Bank can afford it!), but The Bank Bank requires your full name for ticket registration and a matching government issued photo ID for entry(Email your full name to [masked] after RSVPing Yes.)  Tickets are very limited and reserved 3-4 months in advance.  RSVPs will be honored in the order of the RSVP date/time-stamp.

Last time I took this tour, the only thing the Fed Bank's tour guide stated concretely was that the US will never go back to the gold standard. :D

The Talk-About will be held in a coffee shop or restaurant nearby and will be free. Yen will moderate the session, and it will be structured with questions to get the conversation going, but will lean towards free-flowing discussion thereafter. Thank you.

The first available reservations  were in April 2014, and currently, they are fully booked through April of 2014.  Please read the Fed's visiting instructions on their website and full name, address is needed to register for tickets and government issued photo ID is needed for entrance.  Their guided tour and entrance to their museum is free. http://www.newyorkfed.org/aboutthefed/visiting.html

This is my second time asking the Fed's Tour Guide questions and both Tour Guides politely excused themselves to go back to work when I started to ask more difficult questions. :D

Welcome back to the States, Linda, and welcome to CNY, Barbara. Happy to see CNY regulars and members from other groups getting to know each other and finding common interests. We gravitated towards multiple conversations which is enjoyable for the social aspect of the meetup and there will be more opportunities in the future to continue the conversation on the Fed Reserves, monetary policy, philosophy. Tentatively, the documentary/Talk-About, "Money for Nothing-Inside the Federal Reserve" is scheduled for a Saturday in May. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/372518877/money-for-nothing-inside-the-federal-reserve Good seeing everyone.

Everyone should have received a photo of their ticket from CNY. Print out (maybe they will accept the smartphone photo of the email attachment I sent you) and show ticket and photo ID to the security screener.

Definitely worth seeing once--the house and vault the Masters of the "Masters of the Universe" built. The guided tour is aimed at the general public and one person though it was presented at the high school level. You get to ask the tour guide questions although our tour guide last year appeared to have been trained by the President's Press Secretary. : )

What questions do you have for the tour guide or the discussion later?

What would have been the consequences to the various interest groups if the Fed Reserves did not intervene in 2008? What would have a "2008 meltdown" looked like?

How was the US financial meltdown manage the same or differently from the other financial meltdowns in recent history?

Also, in look for CNY's private screening of the Documentary "Money for Nothing-Inside the Federal Reserve" and Talk-About in May. I will email you a ticket Friday morning if the Fed Reserve's website prints out a ticket for the late notice substitutions....No guarantees that they will change the ticket names. I'll know only after I get your full name and I try to substitute for the cancellations.
