Folks are always contacting the Manitoba Electric Vehicle Association (MEVA), wanting information and advice regarding the conversion of internal-combustion-engine (ICE) vehicles to electric vehicles (EVs). So this month, long-time MEVA member Gerry Kopelow will be speaking about conversions.
Gerry, the most experienced ICE to EV converter in Manitoba, is a staunch promoter of the benefits of doing conversions, rather than buying factory-made Evs. He has converted a 1985 BMW 5 Series, and a 2001 Chevy S10, and is currently converting another BMW.
For those who have questions, the more specific your questions are, the better able Gerry will be to help you. For instance, if there is a particular vehicle that you are thinking of converting, Gerry suggests that, before the meeting, you search online for info posted by others who have converted such a vehicle (What did they learn?), or rejected such a project (Why didn't they do it?).
To get you started, here's an excellent article "EV Conversion Basics", written by former MEVA President Rob McClement,
Perhaps, you already have some experiences which would be helpful to people who are contemplating conversions. If so, we'd like to hear from you, too.
So, if you have questions, here's your chance to get some great answers. If you have some suggestions about ICE to EV conversions, here's an opportunity for you to stimulate the conversation.
See you Thursday!
