Garibaldi Lake to Burton Hut ~ Moderate ~ 28km ~ 10hrs+

  • April 13, 2014 · 7:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

This is not a technically difficult hike... it's just a loooong hike+SS and only suitable for those fit and ready for a challenge. It will be a moderate but deliberate pace.

There is a minimum weather threshold for this of slightly/partly cloudy. If there is any precipitation expected I will reschedule and provide a comparable event closer to Vancouver.

Brilliant, top 5 hike for me. We had some laughs and I am sure some swearing while crossing the endless Garibaldi Lake, but overall a fantastic adventure with a wonderful group of people. Thanks to everyone for making this day a exceptional success. I look forward to sharing more adventures with all of you... stay safe and see you on the trails!

Just went to burton hut today. Beautiful day. No snow until the 2.5km. Used microspikes all the way to the and to the other size of the lake. However it started to get warm and hiking in without snowshoes made it tougher on the way back as the ice on the lake started melting and snow turned slush . The first half to the lake is still fine, but the second half you can see the ice is melted. One of my guys was over 200lbs including backpack and his leg sanked into the water, and made kits of holes in the lake on the way back. Tomorrow will be a lot warmer. I would advice to bring snowshoes if you do plan on a crossing all the way to burton hut or just go half way. We left around 2pm from the hut and people without snowshoes had to turn back. Going to the lake earlier helps and we got some luck. And boy it was a long walk to the other side . Hope this helps

Ok, so here is what I propose... I can pickup Letty at Sears Outlet across from Lougheed Mall at 6:15 or other suggested location? Randy, if you can coordinate with Elly a pickup place and time in Coq. and meet us at the Church for 7am. Elly can you suggest a convenient place Randy can pick you up in Coq?

Ravi will meet us at church and then I can take Ravi, Letty in my car to trail head and Randy can continue on with Elly and friend?

The only unknown at this time is Elly's friends intentions, location and/or if joining us.

Hi Rex, can I bring a friend with me? She is well fit and she is the record of grouse grind and she'd like to come with me, is it okay?

Elly... each event leader have their own rules regarding guests and my stance is that I require that your friend create an account on Meetup, join our group and RSVP to the event please. I just like to have record of the people in my hikes... if it were a walk around Buntzen then I would not be so rigid. Thanks for understanding.

Hi Letty, that shouldn't be a problem. Rex and I are coming from Maple Ridge and likely picking up Elly on the way through. We can pick you up in Coquitlam or West Van, whatever your preference.
