Meetup at Johnny MacCrackens?

I'm so glad to see others are interested in forming an atheist/agnostic/skeptic group here in Marietta! I've been a "post-theist" for about a year and a half, and while I've enjoyed the ATL meetups, I wanted to meet with others closer to home - the "Baptist Burb" of Marietta! Are Tuesday evenings OK (like the 2nd Tuesday of each month)? And is Johnny MacCrackens Irish Pub (right off the Square) OK? And is 7pm to 9pm OK? We can modify this based on group preference of course.

Gail Zappa on her husband's death...
"If you want to have a great relationship, now is the time. The worse thing you can find out is that someone you love is dying. If that happens, you can look forward to stopping everything. Now is the time to make your best efforts. It just seems like the chance for people to be on their best behavior.
Dying is bittersweet, beautiful and awful…all at the same time. It is a very special gift to be able to share someone's death with them. It is nature revealing herself in all the ways that are horrifying, terrifying fantastic and beautiful...all at the same time."

don't do youtube, but saw Zappa in Seattle in '70, and Atlanta in '81; can't say that I got into his music that much, but he was a character.

His music was not to my taste, but his opinions in the videos are admirable - I recommend a viewing :)

Carl Sagan's "A Demon Haunted World" is a must-read book about science vs pseudo-science. It is what they are talking about in this short video clip.

I was unable to attend the meetup but hope to attend the next one. Have you scheduled a date? How did MacCracken's work out? Anyone ever go to Darwin's Burgers & Blues on Roswell Rd. in Marietta about a mile from "The Big Chicken"? I wonder if that would also be an option for a venue... http://darwinsburgers.com/

I see they have bands that start playing at 8 pm, tho. That might be a bit noisy.

I'll have to say I vote (selfishly) for MacCracken's, since I can walk there.

Really like the upworthy.com website and noticed the following discussion between an atheist and a christian that was interesting to me:

Just ordered the book from Amazon. I haven't heard of it and look forward to reading it and discussing it.

Enjoyed myself. Since most of the people I talked to at the meetup were pretty serious readers, what do you all think about everyone reading a book about atheism and discussing it at some point? I suggest this book as something to consider:
"A Manual for Creating Atheists" by Peter Boghossian.

Just happened to check back here today to see if you decided on a first meeting date and saw you chose June 3rd. Perhaps you should send out a notification to the 35 or so hominids who have joined in this new group about the upcoming date. Looking forward to it.

2nd Tuesdays at 7 would be OK for me too - so would the first meetup be on 6/10?

MacCracken's itself does not have any designated parking of its own. I think MacCracken's has a sign on their wall bordering the dangerous lot that warns you rather severely not to park there. The pay lot that takes up the rest of MacCracken's block to the east has an attendant during the day to collect parking fees; the signage there implies that after business hours they still want you to pay by putting money in a box, but I've never done it or seen anyone do it, and have never heard of problems parking there at night.

The art museum is fine, too. That's where I try first (and then find a spot right in front of Macrackens - haha!).

I know I was suggesting the second Tuesday but I forgot in will be in Asheville then. So I hope this date works for most. Let's meet on the newer non- smoking side (entry door is right next door (south/to the right) of MacCracken's main/original door. I look forward to meeting fellow Cobb heathens! ;)

I can go this first meeting. Normally I have yoga class on Tuesday nights, but if this day is best for the majority that's fine.
