Meet-up for discussion

I'm very excited to announce that author/speaker Dale McGowan and his wife will be joining us at our September gathering! He has written numerous books on atheism/humanism including several on raising children in a non-religious home. His latest book, " In Faith and in Doubt: How Religious Believers and Nonbelievers Can Create Strong Marriages and Loving Families" was just released. Dale is also the founder of Foundation Beyond Belief, a humanist charitable foundation based in here in Atlanta. Please feel free to invite friends that might be interested - just let me know in case we need to consider a larger venue or a different arrangement. Looking forward to it!!!

As a reminder to interested parties, the two documentaries I was recommending from James Burke:

And here is what I was mentioning to you - the 1993 Nova program on PBS (great for kidz of all ages btw)... James Randi "Secrets of the Psychics" - which was a huge impetus in motivating me to fully accept myself as a young irreligionist all alone in the world (╯︵╰,) http://www.youtube.co...

      Thanks again for your share!

Dale McGowan (speaker) was very nice. I feel sure his books would be helpful to anyone needing the encouragement/direction he offers.

Regarding charities - here is an article you may value as a Skeptic. Perhaps a more efficient way of looking at helping those in need...

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and rate last night's meeup with Dale McGowan higher than Bike Night and that's saying a lot. Thanks Jeff for making it happen.

So Saturday, September 20 would be the date for potluck?
Potluck - we all contribute a dish, right? Haven't done that for a while because as you know Jim and I don't do "church" potlucks.

    • suzanne m.

Darn! Please do post it. That would be great. You can mark your calendar for our NOV. 1 Halloween/La Dia Del Muerto Party.

Suzanne - if you could email me the particulars on the festival and the pot luck, I will set up an event. Thanks!!

    HI all,
Saturday, September 29 is the Arts/Crafts Fest and book sale at Roselawn in Cartersville. It might be fun to come up, enjoy the festival and then have a pot luck at our house. You can park here and walk over to Roselawn too. It goes 10- 6, so we could begin around 6. Or if you just want to come to the potluck that is great too! See you all Tuesday!

    1 · September 7

  • Linda T.

I realize that I can't come on Tuesday after all. Having a procedure done on Wednesday and the prep involved Tuesday will make it impossible. Sorry to miss it.
    What happened, Suzanne?

    September 6

    • suzanne m.

I have heel spurs from a hiking event...Ihave to be off it for 6 weeks. Lots of fun, but I am making it. HOpe your procedure goes well. We should meet for dinner another time.

    • Jeff S.

We will miss you! Hope all goes well with your procedure!

I've got the entire non-smoking side reserved for our group alone, with our own bartender, so we should be in great shape for a good size group! Invite friends who might be interested!

I have to be on crutches for 6 weeks. Anyone who lives way up here near Cartersville going who could give me a ride?

Howsit? My wife Kathi and I have been desperate to find like minded people to hang out with over beer wine or yes even fruit juice, never thought we'd ever realize it until now so very excited to meet members. Unfortunately the nature of my work has me traveling during the week and as you meet on Tuesdays it looks like we'll just be blogging at the moment but it's great to be a member. Oh forgot to mention we have a basement pub called The Green Man, just saying

    1 · August 29

    • Jeff S.

We seem to be a group who also likes to party on the week end, so we may be giving your Green Man pub a visit! :)

      August 29

  • David E.

One topic I'll be bringing up during the meet (at an appropriate time, of course) is that of a Game Night. I'd love to have a set night for a group to play ... Monopoly, Risk, Scattergories, Trivial Pursuit or my favorite .... POKER. I've a golden set of clay poker chips and could set up a just-for-fun tournament. And everyone likely has a Monopoly game or Scrabble, Boggle ... and several games could go on at once ... one table for Monopoly, one for Boggle. Is anyone interested?

    1 · August 27

    • Mike

Yes. That does sound like fun.

      August 28

    • David W.

I may be terrible at all of those, but I'll play!

      August 28

  • Linda T.

I love games - even POKER!!

    August 28

  • suzanne m.

I so enjoyed meeting everyone last night. Looking forward to the next meeting and a party soon at my house! I will keep you posted when we can set a date.

    • Jeff S.

I "think" I gave you permission to set up an event, but I didn't see any confirmation (i prolly should read the "how to"). But to be sure, I went ahead and set up an event for it. See if you can go in an edit, Suzanne - that would confirm if I set you up correctly.

      August 13

    • suzanne m.

i am not sure i know how to do it either.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
