I was a performing artist for a very brief time in San Diego. And I mean very brief. I'm a business man at heart, but with great love for jazz and old school music.
Bass guitar. I haven't played it in years though because I am an organizer of events and a behind the scene guy.
I absolutely am a lover of motown music. I really like the way Motown operated and how organized it was back then that produced so many hit songs. The music industry today is so bland with it's music because I believe they have strayed far away from the way labels back in the day produced music. Rarely did you have artists who wrote their own materials, and some artists were amazing songwriters. However, there was a humbleness back then in recognizing ones limitation. "I have a great voice, and my songwriter can't sing, but together with the songs he or she writes, I the singer, have become a household name". The Temptations, Diana Ross, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, all attain to greatness not by the songs they wrote, but by the songs other people wrote for them and they did not have an attitude about it. Today, nearly every artist feels that they have to be the singer and songwriter. The one man wrecking crew. It's cool if they can do it, but many can't & are not being honest.
Instant yes. I love when someone comes in with a change up that could enhance a song vocally, or throwing in some jazzy saxophone tracks that sweetens up the song. I've had that happen with a CD I produced back in 2001 and it turned out much better than I would've ever done on my own. In fact, I love the approach Berry Gordy had with Motown back in the day. The question that Berry Gordy would ask, “If you had a dollar to buy a sandwich, would you buy the sandwich, or buy this song?” Berry might have said that a little differently, but you get the picture. In the end, I like collaboration and group inputs that plays out like that.

Marietta Jazz and Old School Singers pulled off a top notch event at the Jazz Under The Stars at the Strand Theatre. Great entertainment by Neo4band, and Xavier Lewis the soulful vocalist. I will soon have a link to the videos I did of the event soon. So check the Discussion page for that soon or just come to my profile page to link to the videos.
