I just keep missing the RSVP :( it'll say there's space left, but when I click yes I get a message telling me I missed it. Will try again next meeting. :)

From what I remember from the book, EMP is the most difficult to provide protection. Especially in the case of modern enhanced or "super" EMP which supposedly the major powers now have. I do not have the book in front of me but from what I remember, grounding actually provides an "antenna" that can reduce the effectiveness of a Faraday cage. I have loaned out my book to a family member so I can't be sure. I will see if I can get it back and bring it tomorrow night and we can discuss before/after the meeting.

Basically, a Faraday cage is a metal box surrounding the object that you wish to shield. It may be either grounded or ungrounded. From publications that I have read, there seems to be some concerns that there is a difference between what kind of shielding would be most effective for protection against Solar events and what would be most effective against EMP. There is a great deal of info and misinfo on the net.

I purchased "Solar Flare Survival: Protect Yourself And Your Electronics From The Sun And EMP's With Faraday Cages" from amazon and found it very useful:

It explains in detail why grounding may or may not be advisable for EMP protection. It also provide info for layering protection by adding metallic protection and insulating protection inside a Faraday cage.

    Hope this helps

Communications: Capability really depends on the event. EMP or Solar Storm presents additional problems for unshielded comm equipment. Otherwise HAM operations would probably be more available. Comments, ideas?
