Let's Share A Sunset, A Full Moon Hiking Meditation & Yoga Evening!

  • *Tennessee Valley is now lush, green and blooming with lupine, checker-bloom, blue-eyed grass, California buttercup, and California poppy. The Valley is home for a bevy of birds from raptors to common swallows. There are also deer and coyote, furthermore, only a few days ago while hiking in Tennessee Valley, a bobcat ran across the trail barely 20 yards in front of me. The same day at Tennessee Beach a sea otter which is still on the endangered species list swam out of the ocean, onto the sand for a rest and he/she was barely 10 yards from where I sat. INCREDIBLE!!

    *The retreat  which is now canceled was something which I have been wishing to do for several months now, it was for me an investigation. An investigation to discover if the members of Hiking Meditation will be interested in retreats. It is plain to see, that the members of this meetup are not at this time interested in retreat, so I will try again next year.

    *New Complete Itinerary:

    *Arrive at Tennessee Valley Parking Lot at 6:30PM, leave parking at 6:45PM

    *Hike and visit 2.5 miles to a magnificent Pacific Ocean overlook.  Enjoy our shared moveable feast (dinner) while watching the sun, which will set at exactly 8:21PM.

    *After dinner Devi will teach a Yin Yoga session, including an introduction to hiking meditation, synchronizing mind and body, and we will rest in meditation while we wait for the Moon to rise. Here having a yoga mat or towel will aid in your comfort.

    *Walk down to Tennessee Valley, at this point there's a full moon on the beach option.

    *A 2 mile full moon Meditation Hike back to parking.

    The Movable Feast -----------------------------
    This feast idea was the inspiration of Mindful Hiker Andrew Di Genova. Here is how it works. We all bring something for ourselves to eat and something to share. I encourage you to bring foods that are unique to your culture or individual tastes. At the midway point in our hike, in a beautiful location,  we prepare for our “Exotic Movable Feast”.  Then we all share the wonderful exotic foods that each of us brought.

    *You Need To Bring:
    *Back pack, we will each carry our shared dinner up

    *water, there is no drinking water on the trails                                                                                                                                                          *Appropriate clothing for an evening hike

    *Flash light/head lamp

    *Yoga mat or towel

    **All hikes are offered by Devi Somers on a 'by donation, dana' basis.
    Suggested donation for this hike and Yoga evening $20.00. Dana (pronounced "dah-na") is a Pali word meaning generosity. Dating back to the time of the Buddha, there has existed an interdependence between those who offer the teachings and those who receive them.
