How about a hike to the top of Big Tree and back? It's about[masked] hours hike, probably 6-7 miles round trip, moderate intensity. Trail head is off of Vineyard road in Novato.  Then a meal at Wildfox afterward.

There's the link from G-Maps. There is plenty of parking at the trailhead on Vineyard road a bit further up Vineyard from Sutro. Meet there and then up we go!  Tim Fahey will lead us.

The street view of the above address shows the starting point pretty clearly.

Anyone wanting to carpool, let's meet at the Park n Ride at Mission Ave. in San Rafael at 10:30.  PLMK if you wanna carpool and please message me with your cell # so we can connect.

    Jonathan,

The Event was updated quite some time in advance when Tim discovered that the link didn't take you past Sutro. All of this was discussed as it happened and the link was updated along with written notes to proceed up Vineyard beyond Sutro, to proceed to the end of the road. The end of the road is exactly where the trailhead was.
Had we exchanged more cell #s, we could've discerned the mix up much faster. It took ages for us to use 3G to send messages via the website.

In general, having been an organizer myself, it's best practice to wait at the place indicated in the Meetup (e.g "Vinyard and Sutro) until several minutes after the start time, especially when no one shows and so many respond, to ensure that the group proceeds together. Phone exchange is less necessary (though a nice to have) in this case... If a Meetup changes or details shift, best to use that actual Meetup event, rather than texts, to let everyone know, because that is the point of reference, especially for newcomers. My 0.02.

Darn :( I didn't see the details, but I like the idea of exchanging phone numbers. We all had phones and thought I recalled Tim's number on this page, but had trouble finding it. By this time, Mark had left a message and.... well, hindsight is pretty good now. We had a nice hike, but we will get it right next time.

    Eric :)

    Patricia, Jonathan, Mark and Eric,

We were so baffled about not finding you at the trailhead bc the link Tim provided takes you there and the written notes said to go to the end of the road beyond Sutro.

    BUMMER!!!

So, we were thinking that going forward emailing your cell # to the leader will be part of the rsvp process. Does that sound reasonable?

Patricia, Jonathan, Mark and I were all waiting right at Sutro & Vinyard with no sight of anyone else :( We ended up going out Indian Valley way and up behind Ignacio area. None of us knew exactly where Trailhead was located, so we didn't know where you were, Sorry :(

Hey, pepes :) New to hiking, but a few miles over the weekend was not an issue, so this should be fine. Warming up for a Half-Dome visit on MDW and hoping I wont have to turn back mid-way :( I may need to be called into work Saturday morning, so do not wait up for me if not on time.

It's gonna be a great hike with amazing views of Stafford Lake, San Pablo Bay and more. The Redwood habitats are my favorite part of the hike!
