FINAL Monuments in The Moonlight of The Year! A Very Easy, Flat 4 Mile Social Sneaker Hike! (Metro Accessible)

Last Call...The Next Time We Will Have This Event Is Next Year-Grin! Don't Blame Us...Blame The Moon As We ONLY Have This Special Event When The Full Moon Falls On a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday and Will Actually Be Up During Our Event.

This is our very popular Washington DC Monuments by Moonlight sneaker hike, recently featured in the Washington Post, focusing on memorials near the Tidal Basin and the National Mall! We will walk for approximately 4 miles, around some of the most scenic and majestic parts of the national capitol Mall.

Join us as we visit each of the city’s famous memorials along with some monuments and more. Including but not limited to: the Washington Monument, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Abraham Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial, and the World War II Memorial. We will point out fun and interesting facts about each and allow time to enjoy each memorial as well as take some photos. Come enjoy the spectacular majesty of our monuments in the light of the full moon!

Pace Options
We have several paces for you to choose from so there IS a pace for you whether you are looking for a photographer (this group WILL stop to expose your lenses so is a TRUE photographer pace, casual/social pace, a more moderate hiker, or even a most brisk hiker. Groups spend the same amount of time at the monuments/memorials. It is the pace between our stops that varies.

Pace options include:

A social walking pace of about 2.0mph.

About 3 groups of a moderate pace of about 2.5-3.0mph which is the pace of an average hikers when we are hiking and used in most hike books as a rule of thumb for determining how long a hike will take.

Last but not least, there will be a very brisk workout pace of 3.5-4.0mph. If you sign up for this pace then you asked for it and no complaints as it is not for the faint of heart and is a very fast hike pace between your stops to enjoy the monuments and memorials.

Please put your pace preference in your RSVP to help us better prepare for this hike and save time at the start!

Fido is Welcome on This Hike!

Please remember we are a social hiking group that values fellowship and camaraderie and practice good hike etiquette . We take breaks as necessary and have at least one guide in the front in addition to a "sweeper" in the back so no hiker is left behind. If you get upset because someone has to rest at the top of a hill etc. then find another group! We are very supportive, encouraging, and focus on safety while getting or staying fit on the trail and practicing Leave No Trace outdoor ethics.

Please take note that this is a non-refundable event before you sign up. I don't want there to be any misunderstandings.

Let's have great times and see you there! Be sure to take the hike leader(s) numbers listed below with you just in case you have any trouble locating us at the meetup location.

A wonderful chance to experience a unique perspective on DC landmarks. The icing on the cake was the sneak peak of the full moon over the Capital as we were walking back to our car...and knowing Congress was burning the midnight oil on the fiscal cliff negotiations while we were enjoying a beautiful winter evening in a great city. Thanks Justin--enjoyed the brisk pace.

A really great way to see the major monuments of Washington -- and Mike even managed to conjure up the full moon as we were leaving the last memorial -- the WWII memorial. Thanks, Mike, for a good hike.
