Robert E. Lee Park: Lake Roland Area! A Moderate 5.6 Miles!
Follow an old rail bed along Jones Falls to Lake Roland before returning through upland forest. Along the way, catch sight of rare serpentine landscape. The Bare Hills area of the park is one of four Serpentine Barrens in Maryland. This area is usually referred to as the "Pine Barrens" by the neighborhood residents because of the scrubby and stunted Virginia Pine that grows here. This is a particularly fascinating area for botany and geology, with some unique and unusual plants that associate with the unique minerals.

Please remember we are a social hiking group that values fellowship and camaraderie and practice good hike etiquette. We take breaks as necessary and have at least one guide in the front in addition to a "sweeper" in the back which means that no hiker is left behind. If you get upset because someone has to rest at the top of a hill etc. then please find another group! We are very supportive, encouraging, and focus on safety while getting or staying fit on the trail and practicing Leave No Trace outdoor ethics.

Thanks Kristopher for leading a great hike at a lively pace! I enjoyed hiking with the group, and exploring the unmaintained part of the trail.

Lovely hike through interesting terrain and so close to the city. Wish we had a longer option to extend the experience with this fantastic weather.

This is 5 minutes from where I live and I can tell you that if you guys are hungry there are many, many good places to eat nearby! If anyone is interested I'd be happy to give a recommendation. Just offering my two cents :)

I was just looking at the "Directions to Trailhead" and was confused. Google doesn't seem to like those GPS coords. Also, there's both an exit 23A and 23B. By the directions, it looks like you want 23B (north) in order to make the left at W Joppa Rd/Falls Rd onto Falls Rd.
Then things seem to make a bit more sense from there.
The shoulder parking area appears to be at 39.396130, -76.663137 (where it bends to the right) but since it's on the left side, turning around so you're facing the right way might be helpful. There's some community just a bith further south (on the right) that might be convenient to turn around in.
The street address that Google says is closest to there is:
7300 Falls Rd, Towson, MD
I'm actually thinking about going Exit 22 (Greenspring Ave) to Great Summit Rd/Old Pimlico Rd to Falls Rd so I'm already facing the right direction to park.

If you are on the wait list, you will get an e-mail as slots become available. It is a “first come first serve” system for available slots. Slots are open to everyone, whether on the wait list or not. However, being on the wait list will make certain that you are notified when open slots become available as well as letting me know to look for another leader if the trails (and parking) can accommodate it and still comply with our Leave No Trace pledge. Click the following link for how to get off the wait list and RSVP “yes”, http://www.midatlantichiking.co...
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you need further assistance as that is what I am here for.
