Annual Homemade Maple Syrup Pancake Breakfast and Easy Side of Moderate 4 Mile Hike at Oregon Ridge Park!
Pancake Breakfast
"Celebrate the end of sugar season with us at our annual Pancake Breakfast at the Lodge, from 8 AM to noon. You can buy your tickets at the door: $7.00. Enjoy a stack of hot cakes drizzled with real maple syrup and served with grilled sausage, OJ, milk/coffee. After you’ve had your fill, sit back and enjoy the fun raffles, live music and old friends. Before breakfast, our group will hike an easy side of moderate trek of 4.2 miles in the woods to get our metabolisms going to burn of the pancakes!
Hike Details
Hike up and down easy side of moderate hills in one of the Baltimore area's most packed with wildlife parks on uncrowded trails. Oregon Ridge is the largest county run park in Baltimore County. It has several miles of trails, a nature center, and picnic areas. Oregon Ridge is set in the hills of northern Baltimore county.
Although it is relatively short, at a little over 4 miles, it has a couple of very gradual, yet long hills, so it earns an easy/moderate instead of just an easy rating. Please wear hiking boots or sturdy shoes as this is not a paved trail and has four EASY stream crossings where you cross very shallow water on stepping stones or with the assistance of one of our guides.
There are several different trails running through Oregon Ridge Park and we found a way to hike most of them without any retracing of steps. The trails are generally wide and fairly even with a few relatively steep spots and perfect for a social hike. Trails travel through woodlands over hills and down along a small stream. There is also a small pond at the end of one trail where we usually stop for a group photo.

Pace Options
We break down into groups no larger than 15 hikers per leader/sweep team for a more enjoyable experience for all of us and is better for the environment. Large groups really take away from the hiking experience. This also allows us to offer a variety of hike paces and for this particular hike you have 3 to choose from which allows us to be put together with those of a similar pace. Paces should be not only based on your preference but also ability needs to be taken into consideration.
Pace Option 1: A "walk in the woods" or "social" pace which is great for those who want to soak up the nature and/or transitioning to longer hikes and will be about 2.5mph.
Pace Option 2: A moderate pace of about 3.0mph (most common pace).
Pace Option 3: A VERY vigorous paced group of up to 4mph so no complaints about this pace being too fast because you know what you are getting into. Extra distance will be added to finish at the same time as the other paces.
PLEASE put your pace preference in your RSVP so we can plan accordingly

Please remember we are a social hiking group that values fellowship and camaraderie and practice good hike etiquette. We take breaks as necessary and have at least one guide in the front in addition to a "sweeper" in the back which means that no hiker is left behind. If you get upset because someone has to rest at the top of a hill etc. then find another group! We are very supportive, encouraging, and focus on safety while getting or staying fit on the trail and practicing Leave No Trace outdoor ethics.
Please note that this special event hike, as posted in the refund policy beneath the price in addition to requiring you to click a box that you agree with this policy before you pay, is not refundable due to too many people backing out at the last minute in the past for this special event. Sorry, but this is the only way to help make sure that there is a good turnout ...or the venue might no longer offer this annual event. Since we have made holiday and "special event" hikes non-refundable, it has boosted the attendance rate significantly and we often have perfect attendance, yay! Thanks so much for your understanding.

How to Move from the Wait list to a “Yes” - If you are on the wait list, you will get an e-mail as slots become available. It is a “first come first serve” system for available slots. Slots are open to everyone, whether on the wait list or not. However, being on the wait list will make certain that you are notified when open slots become available as well as letting me know to look for another leader if the trails (and parking) can accommodate it and still comply with our Leave No Trace pledge. Click the following link for how to get off the wait list and RSVP “yes”, http://www.midatlantichiking.co...
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you need further assistance as that is what I am here for.
