Introduction

I have been into hiking since my first AT trip back in 1999. AM always looking for new trails to explore.

How did you discover this meetup?

Did a search for my zip code

What are you looking for out of this group? (walks, transition from walking to hiking, easy, moderate, or strenuous hikes, ultra hiking, or trail maintenance work?) Please state all that applies to help me plan activities to meet your needs...

Mostly moderate and strenuous hiking. Since I have gone hiking in many places all over the country and have experienced a lot of variety in terrain and difficulty I like a trail that feels challenging.

  • Hey Eric! It was great to get to meet you tonight -- even if you can't seem to keep your thoughts out of my brain. ;) Hope you had fun too and hope to see you at another future meetup. Have fun camping this weekend!

  • I'll keep that in mind about the sleeping bag. Bringing along another person sounds great!!

  • Don't think we'll need the 3 pers. Tent. There is one couple going so far and they have a tent already. So I guess we can narrow down a date and exchange phone #'s. That way I can forward any info exchange. I have a water filter just in case and a two burner stove. I may just rent a sleeping bag and tent. The ones I have are not the best for this trip. I always have to bring my percolator for coffee. It's good for boiling water for oatmeal or whatever.

  • Okay!! So this very exciting!! I guess we should start talking about gear and tent numbers. I know u have your own and I'd like to get a one person of my own. Had to return the last one to REI. It broke. If u have any ideas about where to get one...

  • So hey Eric! I found lists of trails on the Shen park website. There is one listed as a one way 3 night trip of a total of 23 miles. Check it out-it is the Hawksbill-swiftrun-laurel prong.

  • Hey Eric, I have a couple of friends who would b up for backpacking. We r wondering if you would settle for something along the lines of hiking in setting up camp, then hiking from the camp one day leaving the site set up or several days of hiking a portion of each day. I understand that this all takes quite a bit of planning so I'll do what I can to investigate trails.
