Introduction

Wanting to explore the outdoors more in my area. I think hiking is a great way to do this.

How did you discover this meetup?

A friend invited me to the monument sneaker hike.

What are you looking for out of this group? (walks, transition from walking to hiking, easy, moderate, or strenuous hikes, ultra hiking, or trail maintenance work?) Please state all that applies to help me plan activities to meet your needs...

  • Hi Kenneth -
I'm signed up for Catlett Mt and am requesting pre-approval. I've been on 8-9 hikes with MAHG this year - including Hazel Mtn (Hell's hill), Mary's Rock, Stoney Man, White Oak Canyon and Strickler's Knob - just completed a 10 mile hike with Sandy and Steve this weekend. I've also done longer trips in the past at altitude (kilimanjaro, annapurna, everest base camp trail). Could you approve me for Saturday's hike on Catlett Mountain? Thanks a lot! Mary

  • Hi Kenny - Wayne & I enjoyed yesterday's 12 mile Big Schloss hike. We plan to sign up for the 14 mile very strenuous Catlett Mt hike, but wanted to get your pre-approval first. We've been on close to a dozen 8-12 mile hikes with Mid-Atlantic group and recently spent a week hiking in the Grand Canyon.
    Thanks, Kathleen
P.S. Curious about the stream crossings mentioned in the write up for the Catlett Mt hike. My shoes aren't waterproof and wondering if we'll get wet (barring I don't fal in).

  • Hi Kenneth, I'd like to do the 14 mi. strenuous hike on Oct. 20th at SNP. Can you approve me for this strenuous hike? I just did the full 12 mi. Big Schloss hike yesterday and did another 12 mile hike a little over a month ago at Little Bennett Regional Park with the group.

  • Hi Kenneth, I just 'applied' to join this group online. I'd love to join the hike tomorrow (Saturday) to GW Nat'l Forest. Also, by what time do you anticipate folks will be back in the DC/Arlington area?

  • Me too me too!? I would like to be 'pre-approved for strenuous hikes' as well. Over the last few months I (the dog too!) have done White Oak Canyon/Cedar Run twice, the Hazel Mountain loop, Overall Run, etc. I look forward to approval for the dog and I to both hike Catlett Mountain with you next weekend!

  • Hey Kenny, Can I repeat Becky's request and get the "pre-approved" status? Having reconquered Mt. Robertson means that I'm next going to have to pick an even harder excursion to kick my butt. But which one? Sure enough, it'll be in the Shenandoah! Cheers and thanks again for leading the last three great hikes.

  • Hi Kenneth! I would like to get the "Pre-Approved for Strenuous Hikes" designation. My few most recent were Old Rag with you, White Oak Canyon and Hawksbill Summit with Tim, and Mary's Rock with Shin Yi. :-) Thank you!

  • Thank you for the invite, Kenneth. I've saved my spot on the hike!
