Me-So-Harney Ryde (Formerly Twisted Ribbon)

Update:  Please arrive at the meetup point at 9:30 am; we will have a ryders meeting at 9:45 and depart at 10:am.  Please also read the Consent and Liability Release Waiver at the link below.

                                                *****

Our first formally-scheduled ryde for 2014!  Adapted from last year's Twisted Ribbon Ryde, now a little longer with the most fun part on sweepy, twisty, rustic, Harney Road, NW of Taneytown.  Fun Ride - 129 miles.  Hey ... this year we won't end up on p-gravel ... promise :-)

Meet: 1000am, Sandosky Shell, Sykesville.

Total Distance: 129

Technical Difficulty:  Low

Time in the Saddle:  About 4 hours

Lunch: Cozy Inn and Restaurant, Thurmont

Rest Stops:  Thurmont, Keymar, Green Valley

Agenda: Ride backroads to Thurmont, MD. Continue across Catoctin Hills, ride rustic back roads, enjoying the scenery. We’ll head north off the Catoctin hills crossing on Foxville-Dearfield, up past Fort Ritchie, up to PA 16 … and then southeast along Harney Road, through Taneytown to Coppermine, where there is a haunted cemetery. Time permitting, we can stop and I’ll show you why (this is part of our October Haunted Ryde).

We’ll then hook south to the other side of I-70 and down to Green Valley, then loop back up just south of Mt. Airy … There’s a fuel/rest stop there. We’ll then conclude the ride by following MD 144 back to MD 97, slightly north to Old Frederick Road, then zag off onto Forsythe, which will return us through the back side of Sykesville.

Really appreciate all those who turned out to make our first 2014 ryde such a success. Thanks Pete, George, Tim as assistant r/c's, and to all for the supportive comments ... means a lot to us. Lots of magic to see the group come together, friendship ... diversity in people and in Spyders to oogle ... What a ** great** formation in the rear view. Pics? Pics? :-)

Great ride and a perfect day didn't hurt. I thought we had about the right number of stops and managing this large of a group worked well. Also, good lunch pick.

Final preparations in place, bike washed and GPX files all loaded up? Everyone wish Gary a safe trip. Hes headed to Sykesville from Philly tomorrow morning, leaving his place at 6am to make the pre-ride meetup! No pressure but, if Gary beats you to the pre-ryde meeting,.... Just saying,... :) Can't wait to see everyone tomorrow morning. Ryde safe.

I'd like to echo George's words exactly. I have been out the last two Saturdays since its been in the 50 degree range. I stopped in the Honda dealership to take a look at their Accords and I have to say "I had more people looking at my spyder than at the cars" It did feel good.

I am looking forward to that ride. I am sick of winter. Let's go!

    3 · December 28, 2013

    • Dan M.

Me, too, George! I'm hoping the weather cooperates on January 4th. Lamont Bryden ("Lamonster" of Spyderlovers.com) and Harvey Clark ("Spyder Pops") are coming to Remington, VA to do laser alignments. Its about an hour and a half ride for me and I'll get to meet another bunch of Spyder ryders!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
