I want to thank everyone that was there & made it happen. Soon I'll mail you about the future, coverage, posts etc. In the mean time I gathered some impressions from Social Media Day around the world on our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/soc...
Be proud and show your business, your activities, your creativity and your passion everywhere. We have no reason to feel small. Be big in what you do, not in what you say. Glad to see there is so much going on here. Amen.

Hi , sorry for the radio silence but it's rush rush here (16 calls in 30 minutes). Still have a video to produce (will be night work unless there are some video mavens out there). Also prepping speech for speaker. Finally this: Belgian startups that aim to go global: we're here to support you. That's one of the purposes. If you have or know a start-up that has to be known in the world: we will do as much as we can on the spot but also: bring your camera yourself. This is now YOUR platform.
Posted by Jean-Paul De Clerck June 29, 2010 at 4:47 PMToo bad Barcelona is back ahead of us...

Posted by Peter Vanwelkenhuysen June 27, 2010 at 10:56 PMhttp://www.nettooor.be/?p=9...
This is the last post I will do here because I know you receive lots of mails. Tom, feel free to send the "free" link via Facebook. The event is not a flashmob. Will now devote my time to making the event the best possible. All details are here: http://www.amiando.com/smda...
. Further details follow. Patrick, read your comment, feel free to contact me. Meaning of social media will be clear Wednesday. See everyone who made this happen then. Cheers.
Posted by Jean-Paul De Clerck June 27, 2010 at 9:33 PMI must say there's some strong language used here in regards to a very simple question I asked. There's no need for that at all. I also disagree that 'free' wasn't mentioned. It clearly was. I don't care 'bout the 20 euro's too but if this is going to be a flashmob where you have to pay to participate I guess that's far beyond the meaning of social media. And that's my 2 cents...
Posted by Tom Van Alphen June 27, 2010 at 6:52 PMI see a massive Foursquare/Gowalla checkin next wednesday :)
Posted by Carl Vanormelingen June 27, 2010 at 5:10 PMmy 2 cents:
Posted by Raphael Nolens June 27, 2010 at 12:57 PMI don't think participants were/are expecting a wedding party. ;)
so let's not over-organise this and just let things happen.
- choose a public (or private) place that can handle 300p
- let participants print name badges to put on
- do some kind of fun collection/donation for the cause
I welcome anything that is organized, especially around social media. 1 of the reason's I believe in this new interactive communication is transparency and dialogue. The danger of organizing a Social Day, already a contradiction as every day is a social day, on behalf of Mashable, is that you help them with promoting themselves. Was/is that the goal or was it a real social day? So I hope the communication becomes transparant again and that you all enjoy a great evening.
Posted by patrick bosteels June 27, 2010 at 11:51 AMTotally ready to meetup for whatever pricing.Thumbs up organizers.

Posted by Koen De Witte June 27, 2010 at 1:49 AMNuff said.
Posted by Kris Hoet June 26, 2010 at 10:09 PMThis flame thread is already irritating me before it even started! You guys have nothing better to do then whining about a lousy 20 euro for networking and free drinks ? Either pay the damn thing and let's have some fun together next week or go whining in somebody else's mailbox thread! Have some respect for the people making this possible! And if you can sit back, relax and enjoy the evening, 20 euro is not worth complaining... is it ?
Posted by Cain Ransbottyn June 26, 2010 at 10:01 PMHi Tom, it was never announced it was free. It was announced we would keep fees as low as possible. It's everywhere. But I didn't mention it here, that's why the confusion. So I apologize. It's what happens when you set up a massive event in 9 days. However, just as with Ann whom I called, I prefer to talk about this elsewhere: mail, Twitter, phone, whatever. Doing it here is spamming the group since all posts are mailed here. Thanks.
Posted by Jean-Paul De Clerck June 26, 2010 at 9:59 PMPlease allow me to be confused: upon announcement it was clearly announced to the public as being a free event (due to the sponsors), now all of the sudden it turns out to be a paid event. What made this change necessary, it seems sponsors were found...
Posted by Tom Van Alphen June 26, 2010 at 9:47 PMSocial Marketing Meetup seems a sort of competition after all: "RT @mashSMday: The NYC @mashable #smday meetup location has been finalized: http://ow.ly/22ngX
Will another city beat NYC for most attendees?"
Posted by Jean-Paul De Clerck June 26, 2010 at 9:44 PMI signed up for this meetup last week and now all of a sudden I have to register again and it turns into a paid event?! Brussels meetup, here I come...

Posted by Jean-Paul De Clerck June 23, 2010 at 5:45 PM@Jean-Paul; It might be an idea to try and get a Belgian(/European) firm give away something similar. (Sony Benelux, are you listening?) The Mashable contest is for US Residents only. Lets show them it can be done here as well. ;-)

Posted by Jean-Paul De Clerck June 21, 2010 at 2:47 PM@Nicolas Dat mag natuurlijk altijd. Maar ik kom ook vanuit .nl rijden, omdat Antwerpen gezellig is en lekker dichtbij. Of moet ik dan toch maar naar Amsterdam? ;-)
Posted by Arne June 21, 2010 at 1:11 PMWe have passed Boston now. We can join forces with Brussels and jump over Barcelona, but New York (287) is way ahead of us.
Posted by Bart Gardeyn June 21, 2010 at 1:01 PMJP, Adelina Peltea is the SMBXL organiser. L'union fait la force! Belgians united!
JP, ik werk voor StampMedia en zou graag een artikel over het event schrijven om het meer in de kijker te zetten. Kan ik je op een telefoonnummer bereiken of e-mail?
