We're thrilled to celebrate Mashable's third annual Social Media Day! We launched the event in 2010 as a way to recognize the digital revolution happening right before our eyes. We invite you to join fellow social media enthusiasts by hosting or attending a Social Media Day Meetup in your area.
Visit our Social Media Day website for resources and more information: http://mashable.com/smday We look forward to celebrating with you!
For the first time ever in the Rio Grande Valley, we are celebrating Social Media Day 2012 on June 30th, 2012 at Costa Messa restaurant on North 10th street in McAllen! As part of the celebration we are planning to propose to our Mayor in the City of McAllen that he sign a proclamation establishing June 30th, officially, as Social Media Day.
In addition to this, the local chapter of the Social Media Club will be hosting a one-day Social Media Camp to expose local businesses, clients, and end-users to what social media offers to each of them.
We will have featured speakers, Q&A sessions, and live interaction across multiple social back channels, as well as a live web-enabled stream of the event so that we can share our day with the World.
Through our Social Media Camp, we will encourage local businesses to share how they use social media to enhance their business practices, engage in community involvement, hear local user's stories of how social media affects their daily lives, and we will lead discussion and brainstorming of how to make the most of an online presence. We will encourage interaction and hard-linking of services, products, and most of all people, by setting this as a meeting place for individuals who may be friends on-line, but have never met face to face. We will inspire check-in’s at the location to try and achieve a FourSquare Swarm badge, as well as monitoring in real-time of hashtags and Facebook pages related to the event to have a showdown of social media services.
Our goal through this Social Media Day Camp is to reach individuals and businesses, from novices to
professionals, to generate a greater understanding and use of social media in the Rio Grande Valley.
