Lastly, I am a HUGE foursquare fiend so I would love nothing more than to pull off a Swarm badge (50+ check-ins at one location) tomorrow night. Please, if you have an Android, Blackberry, or iPhone, head over to http://foursquare.com/ or each of the respective app stores to download it (free, by the way). I will keep everyone posted throughout the night as far as check-ins are concerned and hopefully we can cap off the first social media day celebration with a rare badge!

It should be a great time Britt! And I am simply the organizer, not the host, haha.

I just got an email from Debbie at Next Door and she said they are working on a food special for the celebration on the 30th! Rock on! We won't know what the special is until probably that morning because they only use fresh ingredients and what not. I will keep you posted though, or better yet, I'll let it be a surprise :) But just just to clarify, we are now going to have a beer, wine, cocktail, and food special!!

Welcome Rebecca! We are in the process of building the ROCTweetup group that will meet on Mondays, which you can join here http://www.facebook.com/gro... but there is also the Social Media Club of Rochester (http://rochestersocialmedia...) which meets on Thursday nights. Both of these groups should at least get you out and meeting fellow #ROC tweeps and talking social media! Looking forward to seeing you on the 30th!

Hi Everyone! I'm thinking of attending this meetup... I'm a social media enthusiast myself and I've been following the ROC social community from afar on Twitter. Would be great to meet you all... does anyone ever organizing speaking engagements so we can hear what everyone does and their experience with socmed?

After careful consideration and hearing the opinions of many interested people, we have decided to go with Next Door as the venue for the Rochester Social Media Day Meetup! I apologize if this disappoints some people but it was difficult to get a consensus and we had to make a move. We are already planning a few ROCTweetups to take place at ONE and at Tap & Mallet in the near future! So, with that being said, I hope to see everyone out at Next Door on the 30th!!

I appreciate the details Joe and we will be deciding tonight at the ROCTweetup at Next Door(http://www.facebook.com/eve...) which I urge everyone to attend!

wednesday we have the whole parking lot in front of One. Upstairs is ideal at least 50 people can sit down up there and more can obviously stand

One has free valet parking, so parking isn't an issue. They have three spaces - downstairs public space at the bar/restaurant is limited. They have large indoor and outdoor spaces upstairs each with their own bar. Not sure what you need to do to reserve them though.

    Tap and Mallet!

I think One would definitely be a cool spot Joe, but 2 things come to mind. First, would it be quite enough for this meetup-remember it is all about discussing social media and second, is there enough parking for everyone? These were two things we kept in mind when choosing venues.. I think Social Media Day After Party @ One would be a great idea though!

Posted by Nick Rovisa June 18, 2010 at 7:13 AM
  • Joe Sirianni's Photo

I would think One would be the best seeing as they use social media and viral marketing to promote their business.

I would say Tap & Mallet only because it's in the South Wedge, which is a trendy neighborhood within the city of Rochester, and because they are very active on on social media. Next door is great, but it's not technically in Rochester.. Just my thoughts. Give me your vote please!

OK all, both Tap & Mallet and Next Door got back to me, each sound great. Tap & Mallet said he would love to have us, and would offer beer and wine specials just for us! Next Door said they would section off a part of the outdoor patio for just our group, and offer some sort of special too (no food). Where do we stand on these locations because I'd like to decide and get a move on!

    Great thoughts by everyone!

@Corey: Do you want to take some time to reach out to Wegmans and gauge their interest in getting involved in some way?

@JoLynne: Way to be excited about this!! Woo hoo! Great call on Starry Nights from what I've heard (never been). I've yet to hear back from Tap & Mallet (World Cup going on, I'm sure they're busy) so would you like to reach out to Starry Nights on our behalf? Just run the date/idea by them and gauge their interest as well..

    @Jenna: Right again!

I just posted my long-winded response regarding venues on the ROCTweetup Facebook Group discussion area. This comment area has a limit, and I was well over it.

Look forward to your thoughts and feedback. =)

JoLynne & Corey - Great suggestions!

At this point, I think we will need to reach out and approach our top three venue suggestions and see how they respond. From there we can confirm a final event location. I believe with this event, the success of it depends on awareness and promotion. If we can make this first social media day a success, there will be no problem locking in venue/door prize sponsors for future events.

I sometimes get carried away, so if the previous comment is a terrible idea, don't hesitate to say so! No hard feelings..I promise! : )

I was thinking the other day-Do you guys (and girls!) think Wegmans would be interested in helping out? Maybe they would donate some door prizes/snacks, etc. They seem to be really on board with social media (at least Twitter). I think that the more organizations we can involve, the better, and I also think that organizations will be willing to help out if they can (It helps them out too-Great PR, right?!). There might not be enough time this year, but I just thought I'd throw it out there...

I love Starry Nites...It is a little small, but a very fun atmosphere!

Hey everyone, if things don't work out for Lovin' Cup or Tap and Mallet, how about Starry Nites on University Avenue? It's kinda sorta smallish but so funky and artsy that I can overlook the cozy vibe. Great artisan food, good coffees, and wines. Also a very current, engaged vibe. Check it out! I've added June 30 to my schedule. :)

So i spoke with Leslie from Lovin' Cup today and they have 2 other events going on on the 30th. She said we could tie in to them, but personally, I don't really like that idea.. I was going to go to Tap & Mallett next..

Nick I definitely admire your boldness and motivation to come out and meet with us at Spot Coffee. We appreciate you and your initiative. From what I have learned from this group of people that are on board, your a good fit, and this is clearly your area of expertise. So..."welcome to the club" Let us know what we can do to help (deligate) and be sure to check out the facebook ROCTweetup page http://ow.ly/1X3Tc to stay engaged

Great thoughts Jenna! In fact, Jaime Barclay suggested both Lovin' Cup and Tap & Mallett for those reasons! I have a meeting tomorrow with Leslie from Lovin' Cup and if that doesn't work out, then Tap & Mallett will be the next contact. Is this cool?

I think using a venue that is really grasps the concept of social media would be a good idea - makes sense for social media day. Also, a business that is locally owned and operated would be another key criteria to choosing a venue. Maybe Tap & Mallet or Marge's Inn on the Lake. They're the two places that came to mind. Both are active on Facebook and/or Twitter and local.

We have not chosen a venue yet, does anyone have one in mind?? If so, please share!
