Posted by Dan Levy June 29, 2010 at 7:02 PMFor all those driving to the Madison there is a bit of street parking on Spadina and there is the aformentioned Green P parking lot right behind the Madison.
Would have loved to quaff some craft beer at C'est What but I'm sure the Maddy has some tasty pints. @kglobos

Adil (@mycitylives)
Posted by Adil Dhalla June 28, 2010 at 9:15 PM@Dan Levy, sorry about my late response Dan, I was unable to contact Mr. Cashmore. Sounds like you have things rolling. I don't need to consult the Madison about tripod access, as I wasn't planning on bringing any gear to cover the event. A few producers have expressed interest in the event. We'll see where it goes. Thanks everyone, see you at the Mady.

Interesting move to a sponsored event with speakers, but not sure this venue will work - particularly on an evening right before a holiday!
Posted by Corina Newby June 28, 2010 at 3:18 PMCan't wait!
Posted by Chris Farias June 28, 2010 at 12:59 PM@Alladin: Good thing we are going to meetup, listen to speakers, and discuss Social Media and not to drink! Doesn't matter where you are, it's who you're with!
Posted by Dan Levy June 28, 2010 at 11:32 AMWe are definitely going to have the best SMDay Meetup thanks to all you great people and our official sponsors Netfirms.ca!
Posted by Dan Levy June 25, 2010 at 4:56 PM...More news and updates to come as they happen!!!...Bilal and any other speakers who I'm not in touch with as of yet PLEASE get in touch with me (DAN.E.LEVY at GMAIL) re: speaking time/length so I can let the Mashable people know as they have requested we let them.
Hi all,
I just wanted to let you know that we have a speaker announcement coming on Monday (maybe sooner) thanks to Netfirms.ca, the official sponsor of this meetup!
Netfirms will be providing some refreshments/snacks at the meetup as well. Head over to their site or Facebook page (search: Netfirms), and find them at the meetup to show them some love.
Look forward to meeting you all this Wednesday but for now you can find me on twitter @norflow.
Have a great weekend!
Posted by Ron M. Wolf June 25, 2010 at 4:48 PMAlso one other thing. Along with the broadcasting of the livestream there will be a video from Pete Cashmore to be played. I noticed a couple of photo/video people are involved in the meetup can one of you guys email me so we can arrange a setup with the Madison and so we arent all huddled around a laptop screen...there is 147 of us 'interested'.
Posted by Dan Levy June 25, 2010 at 10:25 AMHey all I know Bilal Jaffery would like to speak and anyone else who does please message me (dan.e.levy at gmail) with topic and amount of time you'd want so I can figure out a schedule. Andy's idea on a 10 minute time limit is a good one but I would still like to get a rough estimate. There will be a livestream of the Meetup @ http://watchitoo.com/show/w...
and I figure that the speaking should be the part streamed.
Posted by Dan Levy June 25, 2010 at 10:23 AMCan't wait!
Posted by Julie Tyios June 22, 2010 at 11:44 PMI can't wait to chat and hang out with Carly-Anne.

http://twitter.com/monsevid...
Excited to come and meet everyone! Can't wait to chat and hang out with Dan Levy!
Posted by AntonK June 22, 2010 at 9:22 AM@Bram Berk if previous times I have been there with a reservation are any indication they will send us to the "Party Room" which is all the way on the top floor. They may not though because we have so many people...if they do I was there Saturday and it gets HOT up there...y'all have been warned! LOL
Posted by Dan Levy June 21, 2010 at 6:02 PMI don't know if this has already been asked but where in the MAZE of the maddy will people be congregating ? And how do I possibly start up a conversation with someone ? I mean how do I know who is there for this Vs. who is just there for a random drink?
Posted by Bram Berk June 21, 2010 at 5:54 PM@Bill Colbary What say Mr. Cashmore? ...@Daniel Silver shouldnt be a problem as far as I'm concerned. As no one in the group has voiced any concerns with it I am guessing everyone is OK with it. As to tripod access I suggest you call the Madison and ask them.
Posted by Dan Levy June 21, 2010 at 5:24 PMSounds like fun! =)
Posted by Sarah Smiles June 20, 2010 at 8:23 PM@Andy sounds great! Also people might I make a suggestion that if/when you decide to follow someone from this group on Twitter you @mention them to let them know who you are (and youre from this group) we all get the random twitter followers all day every day I am sure and it is good to know who's a legit person to bother checking if we should follow them back
Posted by Dan Levy June 19, 2010 at 8:37 PM@Dan: I was planning on doing up a template with a combo of Meetup.com, Mashable and Social Media Day logos adjacent to a big "Hello My Name Is" (like you suggested). I'll have a mock up for you guys later today - I'm picking up the lanyards this morning. :)
Posted by Andy McIlwain June 19, 2010 at 10:00 AMLooking forward to chatting with you all!
Posted by Corey Tyhurst June 19, 2010 at 9:49 AMIn terms of signage and the lanyards how about we use the Social Media Day logo http://bit.ly/c2NMIX
with your standard Hello my name is: tag (like the one for the meetup.com logo) OR maybe Mashable has some nametags we can use Bill maybe DM Cashmore asking about that?
Posted by Dan Levy June 18, 2010 at 9:12 PM...spoke to the manager of the Madison again today & advised him of our growing numbers, just emailed him a link this page so I don't have to continually call him with updates LOL
Excited about this meeting. Follow us at @StylishAndCool and @ddnmedia - We develop mobile apps with soc media integration.. See you at the event
Posted by dimitar popovski June 18, 2010 at 8:17 PMI would like to take some group/event photo's if everyone is OK with that! (I am not looking to be the ONLY one ;p) Anyways, I would also love to do an interactive 360 x 180 panoramic group shot to be seen on-line! If you are not familiar of my work or interactive panorama's, please check out my work ( http://www.360virtualtours....
) and let me know if it would be kool! (tripod access required)
Posted by Daniel Silver June 18, 2010 at 7:15 PMI agree Matt!
Posted by Katie B June 18, 2010 at 3:48 PMYa the conversation should be open. I think if we keep it general in the beginning, the conversation will become more specific.
Posted by Matt Goulart June 18, 2010 at 3:46 PMHey Bill - I'll be covering this and sending any materials out to press afterwards, great if you can coordinate messaging pre-show.
If anyone is interested, I'm @corecorina and used to run/host/facilitate the Ruby on Rails Project Night. Currently work in online community development and social engagement experiences (online to real life).
Happy to meet anyone at the event, but if you can use my knowledge or experience to your advantage, please make a point of saying hello :)
Posted by Corina Newby June 18, 2010 at 3:44 PMand thanks Ash!
Posted by Katie B June 18, 2010 at 3:34 PMWe are now in 6th place! 2 ppl behind Chicago!
Posted by Dan Levy June 18, 2010 at 3:34 PMI have made a Facebook event page http://www.facebook.com/eve...
...I also guess I should call The Madison with an updated # LOL
...conversation should be organic I think...maybe we can try to get a Canadian bigwig or two to speak...as well as the people who've already offered. Maybe we can discuss social media as customer service or marketing and IF it customer service is even marketing or is it operations...props Andy ;)
That sounds awesome Bill. Love the idea.
Posted by Katie B June 18, 2010 at 3:34 PM@k8teeb
I work for traditional media outlets in the city, I'd like to pitch coverage of our event to some if the quirkier show producers that I know would find it useful to tech savy viewers.
Posted by Bill Colbary June 18, 2010 at 3:32 PMAny one opposed to this?
I completely agree with Katie in this instance, Lets focus on getting the bodies there, the rest should take care of its self. I mean we are social marketers, if we cant carry dialogue socially, what good are we? :)
Posted by Ash Molaei June 18, 2010 at 3:29 PMCubicle/desk-suitable swag from Mashable would be great. :) If we can't get enough for everyone (which is likely), perhaps we could do it door prize style?
Posted by Andy McIlwain June 18, 2010 at 3:27 PMGreat idea Bill! I don't really want to narrow it down too much. I like the idea of keeping this open and organic... letting the people create the conversation of choice.
@k8teeb
Posted by Katie B June 18, 2010 at 3:25 PMI'm DMing Cashmore with regards to Mashable swag for the event. Hats, tshirts... Why not. We are shouting out their brand quite a bit. Anything else the tribe wants?? I'll wait one hour to post.
Posted by Bill Colbary June 18, 2010 at 3:22 PMBill
@mansemedia
How about being topical and discussing the role of social media during the G20 (more generally - social media & civic/citizen engagement)?
Feel free to connect with me @stephaniefusco
Can't wait for the event!
Posted by Stephanie Fusco June 18, 2010 at 3:20 PMLet's keep sharing ideas for what we can do during this event.
Is anyone interested in speaking? I know Bilal Jaffery is willing to talk. Maybe we can set a central theme as well that's more specific for Toronto/Ontario?
Posted by Andy McIlwain June 18, 2010 at 3:12 PMAnything we need to do at all that could help us be more organized and prepped?

Posted by Katie B June 18, 2010 at 8:58 AM- www.twitter.com/k8teeb
I'll unscrew the lid from a salt shaker and then sit across the room and watch for when someone goes to put salt on their food.
Posted by sean Ward June 18, 2010 at 2:33 AMThis is fantastic! If there is something I can do to help out just ask! Thanks Dan and Andy for setting up this meetup.
Posted by Matt Goulart June 17, 2010 at 8:39 PMI like the Lanyard suggestion. @BilalJaffery
Posted by Bilal Jaffery June 17, 2010 at 7:43 PMI can speak about Engagement/Risk Management on Social Media. I lead IBM's Social Media Strategy.
Posted by Bilal Jaffery June 17, 2010 at 7:41 PMI may be headed out of town that night, but maybe I can swing through or leave the next day...
Posted by nicole winchester June 17, 2010 at 7:31 PMI'd love it if we had a couple speakers or maybe a theme. I'm pretty outgoing online but woefully shy IRL.
Posted by Nox June 17, 2010 at 6:07 PMDefinitely looking forward to this. Thank you Dan for organizing.
Posted by Tony Tedesco June 17, 2010 at 6:01 PMTHANKS DAN!!!
Posted by Rachel E June 17, 2010 at 5:50 PMBooked/made a reservation at the Madison and told the guy to check on this page so he'd know how many ppl were coming (if it goes to more)
Posted by Dan Levy June 17, 2010 at 5:15 PMPS Going to call the Madison right now in regard to the space.
Posted by Dan Levy June 17, 2010 at 3:10 PMWow those are great ideas! I love the idea of making this a regular group thing esp as we may not be attracting everyone because June 30 is right before the Canada Day weekend (a lot of ppl taking off Fri the 2nd so they can leave the city Wed night)
Posted by Dan Levy June 17, 2010 at 3:10 PMWhat if someone made a template of a nametage (I could) and then everyone wear a lanyard where it could be inserted? that way everyone is identifiable??? thoughts?
Posted by Katie B June 17, 2010 at 2:32 PM@Rachel E: I am thinking about organizing something a little more regular too, if it interests you.
Looking forward to meeting you all. I have some 'Hi I'm ...' stickers left but not many at all. Has anybody made a booking for Madison Pub (this is a large group!)
Posted by Alexander Blom June 17, 2010 at 2:30 PMEveryone,

After this SMDay meet-up are there any peeps who would be interested in continuing a social media meet up group? The meetups I've been to in the past are usually at a bar(;-) and have an hour for networking before, a speaker, panel or topic, then more networking afterwards.
