Massachusetts Men's Gathering

Massachusetts Men's Gathering (MMG) is a participant-organized and participant-led weekend that happens twice a year at a year-round camp/ retreat center. Like similar format retreats throughout New England and in several other states, MMG does not hire "experts" to run workshops or provide the entertainment, but trusts in the abilities of whoever shows up!

The MMG Organizing Committee (OC) plans and sustains the framework for the spring and fall weekends, but not the content. Each participant brings his piece, his truth into the framework to make the content rich. Whether we are offering a workshop, talking over coffee for hours with a new-found kindred spirit, or just exploring the peaceful country setting, we are MMG.

For twenty years now, men have been using the wide-open format of the weekend to take chances and be good to themselves -- by leading a workshop, receiving applause during talent show, sleeping incredibly late, playing Frisbee or Scrabble, hiking to the waterfall, talking around a campfire, going back for a third helping of chow...

Weekends are held at Camp Elliott Joslin in Charlton, MA, a rustic, private and masculine-feeling camp where we have freedom and space to grow.

MMG is inclusive of all men, regardless of their race, color, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, disability, age, or religion.

The membership of MMG is not really represented well in this meetup group, a weekend event typically has between 40 and 50 men attending.

"Due to a chance to visit friends in Shanghai, I didn't get to attend MMG. But I thought about what was happening on the other side of the planet from me (Shanghai is exactly 12 hours ahead of our time zone) all weekend long...."

"I've been going since MMG 10, except for two that I've missed. Thats 36 gatherings so far! I drive up from Philadelphia PA, frequently staying over at a friend's / fellow attendee's house along the way...."

"This weekend was particularly good for me. I was able to participate by offering two workshops (one co-hosted by another MMGer). I attended two other workshops, and made a few new friends while rekindling some old friendships...."
