Hello all,

Well, the Sicilians have spoken! Both of our events filled up almost simultaneously and we have wait lists, so I know you are all looking forward to a great night! You won't be disappointed as Massimo takes us on a culinary sojourn into Southern Italy, familiar territory for him being from the not so far away Puglia (March's destination). Below is the menu he has planned for us:

antipasti

  • focaccia palermitana with sausage and onions
  • arancini (riceball with bolognese)
  • polpo ad insalata (octopus salad)
  • melanzane ripiene (stuffed eggplant)
  • orange and onion salad

pasta

  • sedani with trapani style pesto
  • fettucine with swordfish sauce

mains

  • pollo colle melanzane(chicken with eggplants)
  • insalata

dessert

  • cannoli siciliani
  • strawberry with marsala

Wine Recommendation:

FROM MASSIMO: regarding wine I have to say first that Sicily is one of the biggest wine producer of Italy, a good part of their wine are usually used to blend or to give body to some more complex Northern Italian wines, but in the last few years Sicily is really coming along with some great quality wine, since they understood that they have everything in place to produce some of the best of Italy.

The signature wine of this region is called "Nero d'avola" which is usually compared to Syrah, it is a full bodied red wine usually with good complexity (it really depends on the quality of the wine you choose).

Regarding white they have two very popular varities, Grillo and Inzolia both are dry. Sicily also produces a really good chardonnay, if you like this grape.

You can find easily the nero d'avola at lcbo, a good one starts around $14, while you can find the white more easily at bigger lcbo, they're usually not really expensive since the sicilian wine didn't break the market yet.
Good luck and see you soon!
