Are we going toward a post-democratic era?

There has been much discussion recently that democracy has seen its heyday, and that the future belongs to other types of societal structuring. The boldest attempt in this sense has been an article by Eric Li, presenting China as a viable model for how to build a society that avoids the perceived flaws of democracy. Is Li right, or is democracy still the worst form of government except for all others? And if so, what can we do to improve it, if anything? A short suggested reading is available.

Lively comparative discussion between "China Inc." and "The Best System Money Can Buy" models and their corruption. Too bad Joy was not able to video-conference in to share her observations while traveling in China. The five-light-bulb moment of the night was the sobering comment that AA might be the only organization in the past 80 years to have remained corruption-free...I'll drink to that! :D

As a Chinese and an avid social observer, I'm very much interested in this topic... Pity that I have to miss this: on the waiting list, and traveling in China right now.

Can't wait to hear from you all about the discussion!
