I am a licensed clinical mental/behavioral health counselor in private practice in the "Upper Pungo" area of Virginia Beach. I have served as an adjunct professor at Old Dominion University in the graduate counseling program, and currently dedicate a significant part of my time to Residents in Counseling and currently licensed professionals as they seek to become Master Clinicians.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia, a National Board Certified Counselor, a Board Certified Expert in Traumatic Stress, and a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist. I hold certification in many clinical areas including CISD-CISM.
Complex PTSD, Complicated Grief, Sexual Dysfunction and Compulsivity, Eating Disorders and Body Image Issues, Dissociative Disorder, Impulse Control Disorders, Clinical Peer Supervision and Supervision for Counseling Residents, legislative and regulatory matters affecting the profession of Counseling, advances in the field, standards of practice and ethics, professional identity and function, mind/body connections, hypnotherapy, expressive therapies, and advancing our profession. I was selected to take part in the DSM V clinical trials in 2012. I communicate frequently with the Virginia Board of Counseling to address needs. I founded the MCG in the Fall of 2011 to address the isolation that is rampant in clinical private practice. I am interested in adding work with organ transplantation. This interest springs from my own experience of donating a kidney to my son and his subsequent pancreas transplant that CURED his Type I Diabetes and gave him back his life.
Old Dominion Unviversity by way of the University of Virginia.
I need stimulating conversations with fellow professionals who can challenge me and help me grow personally and professionally. I need to associate with dedicated peers and students who truly want to be effective clinicians who are willing to do and learn all they can for as long as it takes to make that happen and who seek to protect our profession from those who do not practice due diligence in the delivery of counseling services. I need to have available to me others who can share their perspectives, challenge my assumptions and perceptions, and help stretch me with their insights. I need these same people to want to do these things in a context of congeniality, mutual interest, commitment and professionalism combined with a liberal dose of fun, relaxation, humor, friendship, recreation, relaxation, social events, support, and healthy pursuits to balance life and work for the good of all.
