The McDowell Sonoran Conservancy is a non-profit conservation organization that relies on more than 400 volunteers to help protect and promote the McDowell Sonoran Preserve.  We do this in so many ways- from trail building to patrolling the trails, guiding hikes, education, and research.

We need your help!  The Preserve is growing by 10 square miles in the next year and we need volunteers to help keep the Preserve protected. Sign up today at www.mcdowellsonoran.org

Dogs are welcome in the Preserve but only service dogs are permitted on guided hikes.

The premise of this hike was excellent: To have a guest speaker and to learn about the area. This is great for Scottsdale & Phoenix residents, and for visitors as well. However, the MSC organizers need to be VERY CLEAR in the description of the Meetups. What can the hiking public and the Meetup members expect on your “hikes”?

My initial and novice experience with MSC was three truly fast-paced, INTERMEDIATE hikes during December 2012. I loved them. Now I have attended two MSC “hikes” in-a-row where we stopped every two minutes. It would be very beneficial to know this beforehand, so that we don’t have to bother the hike leader and the sweep(s) about pace. I know that they are disappointed to lose hikers from the group, but some of us are disappointed too when we sign up for a “hike” and then we don’t move.

My respectful criticism is not of the event, nor the leaders, nor the volunteers, but the lack of information given in the Meetup descriptions.

I will send a copy of this post to the assistant organizer. Thank you Bobby for the hike, and also for excusing us!

I was so looking forward to this. However, a very good
friend passed last month and the celebration of his life
was scheduled for Sunday. Another time

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
