The Hundred Secret Sense by Amy Tan

Set in San Francisco and in a remote village of Southwestern China, Amy Tan's The Hundred Secret Senses is a tale of American assumptions shaken by Chinese ghosts and broadened with hope. In 1962, five-year-old Olivia meets the half-sister she never knew existed, eighteen-year-old Kwan from China, who sees ghosts with her "yin eyes." Decades later, Olivia describes her complicated relationship with her sister and her failing marriage, as Kwan reveals her story, sweeping the reader into the splendor and violence of mid-nineteenth century China. With her characteristic wisdom, grace, and humor, Tan conjures up a story of the inheritance of love, its secrets and senses, its illusions and truths.

I was looking forward to meeting everyone today, but unfortunately I am under the weather. Loved the book, and I am looking forward to the next one.

I was so looking forward to meeting you all on Sunday, but I have to cancel in favor of my grandkids (afterall, they're the reason I moved from Sacramento to McKinney). I plan on seeing you next time!

I went to the mapped location for the Constellation of Vital Signs but I was unable to find the restaurant. Later, I found another address for the same restraurant. So sorry I missed a good discussion.
Hope to see you all ths Sunday! 100 Secret Senses is one of my favorites!

I am so sad we missed you. The area is under construction and is hard to negotiate. This week we're in downtown Plano which should be easier to find. Hope to see you there. --Cathy

Hi all, I just posted the discussion questions for this meeting. There are lots of them -- complete with page references -- so if you want to prepare for Sunday's meeting you're all set. See you soon!

You all sound like a great group, and I can't wait to meet you. One wonderful thing about being retired and being able to indulge oneself...I no longer feel guilty when I sit down with a good book and read, read, read!
