I check out the coffee house at Spoon's in McKinney the other day, and I believe this is a very ideal setting for a poetry slam. Let's do our shows there from now on.

    •  This show was one of the most eclectic slams we've ever had. There were just about as many spoken word poets as there were regular poets. The contents of the poems the writers presented also varied. We had poems that were G-rated and poems that were PG-13. We had scores ranging from fives to tens. And to top it all off this slam had a first -- two poets finishing in a tie for first place. There is no question that this is one of the top five shows in the short history of the McKinney Poetry Slam.
    •  My first time to participate, and it was a wonderful experience. I enjoyed hearing all the poetry very much and Victor Manuel was great fun as the m.c. I just wanted to see how people I didn't know would react to my writing, and it was a wonderful opportunity to read my work. I was in awe of the emotional values in the poetry of the other participants. I think it interested the young woman running the deli, and she would like to write too. I think the poetry slam gave her encouragement.
