I have to go back and get part of my salad spinner that I left there from last Sunday! It was to be one of my baskets. If anyone reading this is going, could you pick it up for me? It's beige.

Thanks for all the great pics. Check out the discussion board for more u-pick farms. Nothing local for raspberries & Cherry Lane farm may only be able to accommodate 6 pple at one time, so I'm organizing blueberries for July 31.

Thanks Cylia for organizing this. Just added two photos. It's too bad you aren't in it.

The location was somewhat difficult to find but it was worth it for the strawberries and the lunch place was very good.

The overcast, drizzly day was perfect for picking. I must have lucked out because my berries were big. I heard they were much smaller in a different section. I picked 11 lbs. in the 45 minutes I was there and I'm not a fast picker. Very satisfied with the farm. They have lots of signage, parking and strawberry plants.

I had a great time--thanks so much to Cylia for organizing! I want to go back again, but apparently they are closing in a week! It was so easy picking strawberries compared to other berries. I picked 11.5 pounds in the 45 minutes we spent and posted a picture here.

I will probably make some freezer jam, freeze some whole (for baking) and eat a great many of them. What are others doing ??

Our lunch group of 10 took a vote and I will look for cherry picking u-pick next -- local is better.....

Freeze Whole Strawberries Without Sugar The best suited strawberries to be frozen are berries that are dark red, firm and fully ripe.

Remove stem and caps. Sort, wash and drain the fruit carefully. Do not soak in water, or the strawberry will lose flavor and nutrients. Do not add sugar.

Freeze strawberries individually in a single layer on cookie sheets. After completely frozen (about 24h) place into freezer containers or flexible freezer bags.

It was perfect weather for this u-pick. Even though it had lightly rained, the fields were dry.

Now -- what to do with all those strawberries???
My passenger Diane is going to make freezer jam.

See more info in my next comment.

I brought up the question of how fruit ripens to my Gaia College instructor today. I was advised that when soil is alive, microbes help a plant to stay healthy so it can produce fruit. Sun is needed for photosynthesis and to allow the fruit to ripen/mature.

In answer to question "will the strawberries be tasty"? I cannot personally vouch for them, however, they should be tastier as they are allowed to ripen before picking and if grown in soil which is alive, the microbes should work with the plant to draw up more nutrients from the soil, and translate to better tasting fruit -- at least that is what I think. I grow strawberries on my patio and they are tastier than store bought.

In answer to question "are the strawberries organic"? The only certified organic farms that we could find are over 45 min. drive away, so it was decided to pick a farm that stated that they do not spray.
