We are going to Akali Singh Sikh Temple for a tour of the temple, a talk about the Sikh religion and a full dinner and dessert.
This is a fundraising dinner with all proceeds going to Earthsave Canada. The price is all inclusive.
We'll be having subji (a mixed vegetable dish), dahl (a lentil dish) as well as a rice dish and other dishes we won't know until the day of, because it depends on the vegetables etc. that are available. Dessert will follow. All dishes will be well seasoned, flavourful Indian dishes, but not too hot and spicy. There are usually lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Hey Christina
Yes you have to take off your shoes and cover you head once you get inside the temple. There are shoe racks upstairs to put your shoes. They also have head scarfs there for people to cover there heads in the entrance.
By the way, what if I wear a hat? Do I have to take it off and then put on a head scarf? Does the same apply to both men and women? Thanks
A hat is fine as long as your head is covered. Yes both men and women need to cover their heads.
Wow, that is so cool. Thanks for filling us in Harveen. I can't wait. I think those outward displays of respect and humility are very cool.
Do you know if the food is going to be mostly vegan or vegetarian? I know that as a part of their religious beliefs they sometimes add a lot of milk/butter in the temple dishes.
Paypal does debit cards as well.
See Harveen's answer below that yes men also have to cover their heads.

Not 100% but almost all vegan. Ghee is not used to cook the dishes.
Sorry, it seems my flash wasn't on, so the pictures aren't very good. But better than nothing.

I heard from a friend who is Indian that we have to take off our shoes and wear something to cover our heads before entering the temple. Is this what we will have to do when we get there?
