Indian Buffet Dinner ($12.67 all in!)

NB. Please note: You do not need a paypal account to register for this event. Paypal is just the system that takes your credit card payment.

Children are welcome at this event. Price is $9.99 for children under age 9.

Many people knew Saravanaa Bhavan, but are less familiar with Sargam House, the restaurant that opened in its place. With some of the same chefs working at Sargam House, they are experts on the South Indian dishes Saravanaa Bhavan was famous for, as well as North Indian dishes. We'll have a combination, with an emphasis on South Indian.

We'll have table service and a buffet. (Please note that they have added a couple more items to the buffet over what we had there last year.) It's a great deal for $12.67 including paypal fee, tax, tip and meetup chip in.

We will have table service for the appetizers, which will be:

-Gobhi Manchurian (mild)

-Vegetable Pakoras (mild)

-Idly

We'll have a buffet for the entrées, which will be:

-Masala/Plain dosa (mild)

-Channa Masala (a chickpea dish) (mild)

-Saag Aloo (spinach and potatoes) (mild)

-South Indian Lentils (mild)

-Sambar (spicy hot)

-Chutney (mild)

-Dal (mild)

-Roti

and Dessert:

-Kesari

N.B. We know some diners prefer the food hot, but we've chosen to have only one dish hot and hot peppers on the side for those who prefer hot, in order to appeal to the greatest number of diners.

This meal may be paid by credit card or paypal account (both go through the Paypal company) or by cash in advance to Nancy at a meetup before this one.

This was so great. I went there yesterday and picked up lunch boxes because I wanted Sterling to try their excellent food and needless to say he loved it. The family is very nice, too. We have friends coming into town tomorrow and guess where we'll be headed ? ! ! (I think I'm addicted...) Thanks Nancy for organizing, I really enjoyed it.

That is so nice to hear. They DO indeed seem like a very nice family that runs the restaurant.

This was another outstanding meetup. The food was so varied and delightfully tasty - plus we had the extra dishes that came as such a surprise. The dinner was made even more pleasant by the good company at my table. Thank you, Martin, Wendy, Irene, Yvonne & Brige. Plus, of course a big thank you to Nancy for another great dine-out.

Enjoyed the food, the venue, the family running things, and the good company. I left full but satisfied. A good event.

Dear Cricket, how so, hot spices help heal colds? My acupuncturist told me otherwise when he treated me yesterday. Wed., 3:00 p.m.

    February 12, 2014

    • kate

it could be the yin-yang thing. If your condition is more "yin" then "yang" remedies would be more healing and vice versa. I once saw a chinese doctor and was told my condition was "hot" and therefore he gave me cooling herbs. LH Kwan, that could be why your acupuncturist is suggesting something opposite to what Cricket is saying.

Also, a person can be yin at a certain time, & then yang at another time, although we're each a mix of both.

Nice selection of all vegan Indian dishes - loved the cauliflower Manchurian, dosas and the curry with the red kidney beans. :)

We talked with the father who said that the cauliflower was a recipe of Indian & Chinese together - very tasty creation.

    Hello, Kate & Cricket!
My body was on fire. The energy pushed to my finger tips around the nails opening out in fine crack wounds. It burst open like little open lips in my right little finger 0.3 'inch' medial to the bottom medial corner of the nail. I had rubbed edible herbal tincture for wounds over the openings and wound. That's why I was wearing blue surgical examination gloves to avoid being thought my finger nails were dirty. The tincture was coloured like iodine. Iodine is poison to kill germs and is not edible. The herbal tincture is edible.
The spicy-hot and oily food items were not good for my hot condition. But the dishes were tempting and tasted good. I ate them, and over ate, which was again wrong for my condition.

The buffet & all-around service was great! The family who runs Sargam House is delightful. The buffet is for both lunch & dinner, & is usually 80-85% vegan (ours was all vegan). i couldn't have imagined a better dinner!

Nice clean restaurant to meet up and dine. First time to join this wonderful group. Enjoyed myself so much.

I was surprised by the last minute addition of extra dishes. I thought it was a very good deal for $12--cheaper than their lunch buffet!

I have got the cold, and spicy hot food is bad for my condition. Kwan[masked]:30 AM.

Only one dish is spicy; the rest are mild. Take care of yourself. (Spices help cure colds.)
