I was out on the weekend and it is the perfect time for another old-fashioned blueberry u-pick. DFG Blueberries, an organic blueberry farm is open from 10 a.m. on the weekends only and there are bunches of blueberries to be picked. This farm has 4 varieties of bushes so pickers, tall or short, should be able to participate. It is also a very child friendly environment -- although they don't have a bathroom on site.
Self-organize your car pool by contacting fellow u-pickers -- ask for a ride or offer a ride by providing details on where you are, whether you want to attend both the u-pick and/or lunch, etc.
For those of you who want to lunch together, meet at the front at 11:30 a.m. We'll travel to Veggie Bunch which offers a Chinese buffet -- set price of $10.99 (plus tax) for all you can eat. Located at 6611 Buswell Street in Richmond. Check out this link for photos: http://chowtimes.com/2011/03/09/veggie-bunch-vegetarian-restaurant-on-buswell-street-richmond/
Bring your water bottle, hat, sunscreen, containers, stepstool if you have trouble reaching the high bush blueberry bushes, a cooler and ice, and enthusiasm.
This is what I do: I hang a small yogurt container around my neck with a bungee cord and when it gets full I dump my berries into a second container.
Cash only -- $2.50 per lb.
Last of all, let me know if you plan to go to the buffet so I can tell the restaurant beforehand to expect us.
Thanks and I hope you can join us.
