We're foodies with an environmental conscience & a concern for animal welfare. Food at our events is vegan, but we're not a vegan group. Anyone interested in lowering their carbon footprint by eating more plant based meals, even if they are not planning or trying to go fully veg, has found the right group!
Meatless Meetup is run by a group of volunteer hosts. Bruno Massé's statement works as a good summary of the views of this group: "The whole point about the case against meat is this: as a species, we have to eat less meat, and drastically so. Even if we don’t want to see it, we are responsible for the well being of each other, the planet and the life forms that still inhabit it. That’s a fact.Moralizing, demeaning or ridiculing people who have different ideas and practices than you is generally not the way to help them or further the cause of the Earth."
If you wish to join, we'd love it if you used a real first name. Welcome! At Meetup events, attendees often take photos and post them on the site. If you are not comfortable being in photos, please let photographers know during the event or contact us if you find a picture of yourself posted and we will gladly remove it.
All our events are food events we organize or are organizing a meetup at.
Please do not ask us to promote your event as we do not send out announcements about events around town and to decline may cause offence, which is the last thing we want.
N.B. As your volunteer hosts can be asked to pay for no show diners, we ask that you be willing to pay for your meal if you cancel without adequate notice. Hosts usually remove members from events who don't answer the reservation questions to prevent no shows. If you are removed, it's nothing personal and you are welcome to reregister and answer the registration questions.
We're supporters of Earthsave Canada and encourage anyone who's interested in supporting a charity that promotes the shift towards a plant based diet to join them. www.earthsave.ca
