@LOCATION: Look for balloons on the mailbox immediately East of the long gravel driveway leading back towards the woods. The old farmhouse out front is the neighbor's property.
On this day, we will be gathering to celebrate International Permaculture Day! We'd like to make this event potluck-style, so bring a dish or drink to share...or just bring yourself and the ideas you have!
The only structure on the farm property at this time is a small shed, but there is electricity for crock pots if necessary. Seating is limited (ok, it's pretty non-existent) so if you want to sit, bring a chair as well.
With that said, real bathrooms are also non-existent out on the farm as well, but there is an abundance of woodlands (and we even have our own toilet paper, lol) to be used if nature calls. If that isn't your cup of tea, there's several options down the road on the square in Litchfield.
What is Permaculture?
"Permaculture is a design system for sustainable living, developed by Australians Bill Mollison and David Holmgren in the 1970s and now practiced by millions worldwide. Whilst permaculture is mainly associated with growing food, it also covers water harvesting, renewable energy, agroforestry, animal management, waste recycling, sustainable housing, finance, community building and earth repair."
See the link below for the official press release:
According to the International Permaculture Day site, York Meadow Farm will be "...one of the permaculture gardens and education centers around the world that will be opening their doors to showcase permaculture design."
The reality is that we are in the process of growing and starting a self-sufficient farm from scratch. We had little knowledge beyond backyard gardening and landscaping when my family began this journey just a few years ago.
On International Permaculture Day, I will be providing a tour of the land, talking about the history of the land and our evolving plans for the farm.
Bring your ideas and knowledge and we can how we all are learning about permaculture-based design systems and integrating them into our lives...
Look forward to meeting everyone!
