Meditate Minneapolis is a community organization that brings meditation workshops and classes to the greater Minneapolis area. We aim to provide an atmosphere of peace and tolerance, welcoming a diverse population as meditation and Buddha's teachings can help all people regardless of age, gender, race, sexuality, or religious tradition. By discovering inner peace through meditation and Buddha's teachings, we can have lasting peace and happiness and help others do the same. The group began as all centers do, a practitioner moves to a city where no center exists yet! So, I am that spiritual practitioner who has received the benefits of meditation and wishes to establish a thriving meditation community in the Minneapolis area. To do so, we teach simple meditation techniques alongside practical teachings about wisdom and compassion. Meditate Minneapolis is a branch organization of the NKT-IKBU (New Kadampa Tradition-International Kadampa Buddhist Union, www.kadampa.org) until we are able to establish our own non-profit center in the area. For more information about upcoming events and meditate minneapolis, please visit our website at www.meditateminneapolis.org or find us on facebook. There are three books that I encourage everyone to read. They are written by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, the founder of the New Kadampa Tradition. The first, Modern Buddhism, is graciously offered by Geshe La as a free download on tablet or handset, and a guide to our meditation sessions. The other two, Also written by Geshe La, are The Meditation Handbook, and, Introduction To Buddhism.
