Make Your Own Buddhist Mala (Prayer Beads)

Learn to make traditional Buddhist malas, or prayer beads, during this unique annual summer workshop.  The cost of the course includes the supplies of your mala, so you’ll go home with your own completed, semi-precious gemstone mala.

Buddhist instructor Dorothy Stafford will teach you how to make the mala, how to use it to recite prayers or mantras, and how to bless your mala once you’ve completed it.

Everyone is welcome.  No previous experience necessary. Fun for kids, too (middle school aged children and older).

Hi, I am new to meditation and had a few questions about the mala beads. Can you make a bracelet with them here or is this just strictly the necklace? You use them during meditation right?

Hi there Amanda. The purpose of a mala is for counting mantra recitations. It's not used as a necklace nor a bracelet. We will tell you all about what it is used for and how to use it, and then we'll show you how to make it and you can go home with one. :)
