Annual Stages of the Path Retreat

Annual Stages of the Path Retreat

All of Buddha’s Teachings in One Retreat

This annual meditation retreat on Lamrim, or the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment meditations, allows the practitioner to explore all of Buddha’s 84,000 teachings in a single retreat.  The Lamrim, which is a cycle of 21 meditations, is said to encompass all of Buddha’s teachings.  During this retreat, we will use The New Meditation Handbook to guide us through each meditation.

Everyone is welcome to attend this special annual retreat.  No prior experience is required.  Anyone new to Lamrim meditation is especially encouraged to attend the introduction to the retreat at 7pm on Wednesday, December 26.

It is not required that you register in advance and it is not required that you attend each session.  This is a drop in retreat, so please come and go as your schedule allows.

Retreat Format

Some of the meditations during this retreat will be self-guided, meaning that the meditation will be read out from The New Meditation Handbook but no further guidance will be given.  During these sessions, we will be using the first half of the prayers known as Heart Jewel as a way of preparing our minds and the meditations themselves will be exactly 20 minutes long.  Total session length will be about 45 minutes.  At the 5:45pm session (7pm on the weekends and January 1), we will also do the second half of the Heart Jewel prayers after the meditation is over.  These sessions will be just over an hour in length.

In the evenings and on the weekends, Gen Nyema will give teachings before some of the meditations and the meditation themselves will be guided.  For these sessions, there will be a 15 to 20 minute teaching, followed by the first half of Heart Jewel and a guided meditation of 15 to 25 minutes in length.  These sessions will last from 1 to 1.5 hours.
