Mid-Ohio Foodbank / Food Sorting and Packing

Where: Mid-Ohio Foodbank 3960 Brookham Drive, Grove City 43123

What: Food Sorting and Packing

When: Wednesday, June 18, 5:30pm - 8:00pm

Want to lend a helping hand?

If you are interested in REALLY doing this then RSVP "Yes" as soon as you know for sure you can REALLY commit so I can commit to the great staff of MOF. Yes, you need to be there by 5:30...I will go into work early to get off early...if you can't do that I understand.

I figure we can find a great place in have a bite to eat afterwards; I’ll post that later on.

Here’s the info…please read it all.

*Parking is free.

*Enter through the main doors under our Mid-Ohio Foodbank sign.  You will stop in the lobby to sign in and continue to the left into The Nationwide Volunteer Center.  We will have a greeter at the front desk to help you.

What we will be doing: All volunteers will go through a short training. You will be inspecting, cleaning/sanitizing, or sorting damaged, out-dated donated items from grocery stores. Volunteers will be on their feet and moving around for the time that they're here (breaks are allowed). There is lifting involved - our boxes weigh between 10 and 20 pounds.  Since we are dependent on donations, there are several different projects you may find yourself working on during your volunteer shift with us.  Here are a few examples of the type of project you may encounter:

Reclamation:  Also called salvage, this is the inspecting and sorting of discarded grocery store items.

CSFP:  This is an assembly line project to build care packages for seniors.

Meat Repack:  We are able to recover tons of good protein by sorting and packing assorted frozen meats. The meats are packaged at the grocery store and we inspect them for quality and sort them by category. The meat repack project is housed in our clean room.  The room is kept cool, but is not a freezer.

Other Repack:  From bread to produce, pasta to frozen veggies, we package all sorts of donations as they become available to us.

Attire:  Attire should be something casual, comfortable and that can get dirty. Since warehouse climate can be tricky, layers are recommended. For safety purposes, we cannot allow volunteers to wear open toed shoes, sandals, or loose jewelry/clothing.

Misc:  We have a secure area of lockers (locks provided for you) if needed.

I hate to cancel at such a late time, but my wife has a migraine and we will not be able to attend. Please let us know about the next meeting (preferably by e-mail) as we would love to be part of this group.

    Thanks

    Hello Gang,
This is a reminder that you have signed up to join the fun sorting and packing this Tuesday. PLEASE update your RSVP NOW if you will NOT be attending. We also have some folks on the ‘Waiting List’. I would like to be able to give the Food Bank an accurate count and DO NOT want any ‘No Shows’ unless it is an important reason like health, family, or work. If you are a ‘No Show’ I expect an email or text telling me within a week on why or you will have a ‘strike’ against your attendance. Per our RSVP policy, 2 ‘No Shows’ within 6 months and I drop you from the group. I will be sending out notices like this before every event as there have been WAY too many ‘No Shows’ w/o a good reason communicated. It’s about good manners and being courteous, it’s that easy. See you soon!
    Blessings,
    Edy / [masked]
