This group will be trying out lots of great afternoon tea venues across London. Most meetings will be weekend afternoons.
Future events include afternoon tea in what is possibly the most famous department store in the world: The stunning Ritz hotel, the fashion-inspired tea at The Berkeley, the Savoy and Fortnum and Mason.
Please don't just sign up to the group - attend events - the whole point of this group is that we actually meet people!
In the early 19th century Anna, 7th Duchess of Bedford, started taking a pot of tea and a light snack during the afternoon. Later, friends were invited to join her in her rooms and it proved so popular that when she returned to London she sent cards to her friends asking them to join her for 'tea and a walking in the fields.' Other hostesses then continued the practice in their homes and gradually it spread outside the home leading to tea rooms and tea gardens opening.
Two hundred years later, afternoon tea is still a great way to spend a few hours and there are lots of fantastic venues across London!
In the 1880s upper class women changed into long gowns, gloves and hats for their afternoon tea... we don't need to do that, but as most of the venues we will be going to are 4 and 5 star hotels, the dress code will be smart - no jeans, trainers, hoodies etc.
Let's make this a great group, and here's to lots of great food, great conversations, great venues and new friends!
